I'm so happy, my sample bottle of vf11 has arrived in today's mail. I'm so eager to try it but none need watering right now. I'll have to wait till they are thirsty.
How many of you soley use vf11 as fert. for your a/v's?
my vf11's arrived
I love using it for all our plants inside and out even lawn when we can afford it. Few years back we bought it by the 4 gallons from Eleanor to do so !
If my pocket book allows I would use it all the time !
i do, thats the only thing i use ,love it
Me too.

I've gotta try this stuff. I've been tellin myself that for a month and still haven't ordered any. Who do you contact for the sample?
Debbie
You can call Eleanor or email her and she will send you a free sample that makes 8 gallons of food :))
I got my sample bottle about a month ago .... used it on everything, but should have waited awhile as most of my plants had Osmacote already in the soil .... after 4 or 5 days I noticed a little distress in some things, but nothing much. I really should have used my ole' noggin and thought before I watered with the VF-11 .... I guess I was just so excited after reading what everyone was saying about it! I remember using a product called Spray & Grow a few years back on my plants, really loved that stuff too, it was very safe to use, guaranteed not to burn etc. I wonder if the Eleanor's has the same ingredients? Here's the web link for her site: I think I just mailed a check for $3.00 for the 8 oz sample bottle. You only use 1 capful to a quart of water, I mixed it up in a gallon water bottle .... it is concentrated so it goes a long way. The web site also lists places that sell it. I am going to my local Ace Hardware store to see if they carry it and if not, I'm gonna ask them to please order it!

Lin
Violet treasure - I can't wait to see how it works. I have a couple of dry plants that I'll use it on tonight but the majority of my a/v's were watered the day before I got the vf11.
Starfly and Don - I hope I'm as happy with it as you two are.
Lin - I withheld fertilizing for a month while I waited for the vf11. I remember someone, maybe it was Allison, said I should stop fertilizing for a while before I use the vf11.
I'll let you all know if I see the results everyone talks about.
Smart Maureen! I wish I had seen Allison's post before I used it. I am going to wait awhile before I use it again, to give my plants a bit of a rest from fertilizer! Since I'm sure there's still some Osmacote in the soil, I don't want to force feed them anything else for a bit! I know I will love the results of the VF11 after reading so many testimonials here about it! I'm even thinking of doing one of those before/after tests. Or, maybe have two identical plants and use the VF11 on one and not the other to see the results!
Can you tell I have a lot of time on my hands? LOL
Lin
Lin, that is a great idea if you have lots of time on your hands. :-) Let me know if you do the side by side test and what the results are.
I used to use VF-11 on all my houseplants, but now I have started sucking mucky water from the bottom of my little koi pond and have even better results! I use a hand pump to pull the water up into old (rinsed) plastic kitty litter containers. After having them sit long enough to match the house temp. I shake the container and pour some into my watering can. My AV's, Hoyas and Epiphyllums seem to love it the most! Things are blooming like crazy around here!
Karen :~D
Very interesting Karen :)) Show us pictures please of your bloomers !!
Now do you have to wory about pest with this water ??
Gee Allison,
I didn't think about the pests that might be in the water! Looks like I may find out the hard way. Hopefully, anything nasty will die as the soil drys out some. I will take pics, as soon as I find my camera, I've mislaid it.....somewhere......
K
Yes the bugs, eggs and so on fungus, virus I'd be wrried about for house plants. Now outdoor plants I'm sure would pleasure from a drink of this rich water :))
Yes, my brugs LOVE it too! K
I use it on my small AV collection. I can even spray on the leaves of my AVs and it doesn't burn them. It's weird I was very hesitant to try it cause plain water burns them. The bottle says you can, so I tried it. Works well. I wouldn't use anything else now.
Vf-11 you spray you mean ? Yes it's great food drink and foliage feed. Just let them dry before you put them into light then they can burn. Water is Ok to spray as long as you let them dry before going into light.
Yes that's what I meant. Thanks for helping me clarify.
ok I was making sure it was not Karen's ( sorry Karen love ya :)) mucky water from the bottom of my little koi pond Lol
Vf-11 is great foliage feed but yes let the plants dry before going into sun they Vf-11 won't burn them but the sun on wet leaves will.
UPDATE
OK, it's been about 2 wks and I do not see any difference in my a/v's. Am I the only one who has not seen a change in their plants? My philodendrum looks better, but other than that I don't see any difference in any of my other plants.
It's not a push food but a health builder. Any change takes 6 weeks. If your plants are healthy and growing happy that's good ! Food is important along with Air, light, temperture , everything put together will make beautiful plants ! I can also tell the difference when I run out until I can get bucks $$ to buy more.
maureen how are your plants doing sense your planted test do you think you threw away all affected plants and got rid of them ? Could your plants not seeing a difference be beacasue of pest ?
Maureen,
Sorry, I know this will set Violet Treasure off but on the VF11 just check the required analysis on the bottle and it will tell you exactly what it is....0.15 - 0.85 - 0.55 which is a minuscule amount of nutrients. A very weak fertilizer...no more no less. No trace elements are listed so there are none. No magic involved. Marketing says "seems like" magic or you "may find" that green thumb, etc. No, it can't burn as it is so weak. Completely safe for sure. I know some folks really like it and that's good. No offense intended whatsoever for anyone who is happy with the product.
No sense about getting silly over difference of opinions Heidi.
I can only speak from my experience and many others I know who have used VF-11 with great success , several on DG's not just in AV forum that have posted liking it And more not .
Heidi You posted back in the summer you were asking about VF-11 and were going to try it and do side by side experiments ?? How did they come ? Did you take notes and pictures ?
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/626515/
VF-11 is a complete plant food. Not a push nor miracle. It also has all Micro-nutrients too
Eleanor is always there email and phone answer questions , she always has time for everyone. She also gives free samples out that make 8 gallons with directions so people can try if they like it ! If not then they no need to buy it.
It is not going to do miracles there is a lot more to growing plants than feeding them !
I have used it for about 4 years now for our lawn, plants outside and inside and we are happy with it !
The number one reason people kill their African violets is from over watering . The second if from fertilizing overdose !
SO for this reason and many others in my feedback for Eleanor's VF-11 is Positive :))
I use other food I recommend also.
But we like this one as it has worked best for us in the past 4 years .
Like I said and meant sincerely, "some folks really like it and that's good." The required complete analysis is on the bottle.
How pretty!!! I love the one in the teapot. What is it? And what is the pretty one in the face planter? Good picture.
Wow, quick response....I just posted! I'm sorry to say I don't know the names of either plant, they are 2 of my much-loved NOIDS. I would be happy to send you a couple leaves to propagate when warmer weather comes if you like. Just send me a davemail reminder when the weather down your way is reasonable.
Karen
The face planter is something my sister made in high school and thought it was "hideous". I've always loved it and it has housed one plant or another for (ahem, I'm sorry to say) going on 30 years!
It's very 60's looking to me, so I guess that is about right! They are very pretty noids. I love the foilage on the teapot one. I ran and checked my teapots, but I haven't found one that has a big enough opening for a pot yet.....too cute. : )
Wonderful beautiful plants Karen ! I love all your decrative holders and the face your sister made is the best !! Happy Growing :))
Karen, those plants are beautiful. I love the blue bloom on the plant in the small white cup. They look very healthy. And I like your hoya too.
Love the plants. The water kettle idea is great, I need to copy that.
Oh Karen, How pretty they all look and I love all your pots : )
Nancy
Thanks everyone! I like to use unusual decorative pots for my plants. Most are "deals" from the thrift store!
Maureen, the blue AV in the white cup is 'The King'. Blue flowers are my favorite, I can't wait to see what this one does when it gets bigger!
Karen
Karen did I send you the King ? It's a great Vintage keep growing and sharing !!
Yes Allison, that is one of the many beautiful plants you shared with me! Is 'The King' a standard? The flowers are so BIG! And thank you so much, I just Love the plants I received from you!
k
