A H. kerrii score !!

Prescott, AZ

Well I took a trip to the Valley yesterday to warm up a bit and meet Awanda. We live sooooo far apart ya know. We had a really fun/quick day. On one of our stops we found the mother load of H. kerrii. Well whats a girl to do, but load up!!!!

Up close and personal, these plants are in 8" pots and so big and healthy looking. But def. need a soil changing.

Are you kidding me???? I've never seen anything like that!! You're right, that's a mother load!!!! You and Awanda looked like you were having fun! Karen
PS - what was in the other bags?

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Karen fun was the word of the day! Tami and I were laughing so hard I missed the turn to the Plant Stand! I told Tami not to be disappointed if they didn't have any hoyas; we had searched for about 15 minutes before we spotted them. We then stood there another 15 minutes trying to figure out which ones to buy. Heidi my part time watch dog didn't even bark, when they got here, she just licked them to pieces! Here is a picture of two of the Kerrii's I purchased.

Blessings,
Awanda

GORGEOUS!!!! Makes me wish I could come to Arizona to play plants with you and Tami for a day!!! Man, I can't even imagine finding a score like that around here!!!

(Zone 1)

Oh I want one! Maybe some of us should "Caravan" to Arizona with a Truck or Two to bring back a haul!

WOW! I can't believe all those Hoya's in one place!

What color is the bloom on the Kerrii? Does it have fragrance like some of the others? I really love those kinda heart shaped leaves!

You two ladies on the loose...together?? Sounds like trouble to me!
Tami, are you sure that is Awanda in the pictures? With the big hat and shades, I thought you were running with a movie star!
I love it! I guess it goes to show there is always room for a couple more hoyas!

(Zone 1)

I've always wanted to take a trip to Arizona! The University where my hubby teaches here in Daytona Beach has a campus in Prescott .... sure wish he had to go out to that campus for meetings or something and I could go along and plant shop while he was busy with school stuff! LOL.

I bet I could find a few plants to bring back on the plane! More likely, would have to ship them back .... I'm sure I couldn't just get one or two!

I should of stated that the photo is of Awanda and my sister/fellow hoya lover Shary. Karen the Plant Stand stocks all of our Home Depots and Lowes, and it may stock other stores. So there were just tons of plants everywhere, the bags right next to the H. kerrii were spider plants, hanging in behind them were just rows of H. krimson princess, the first I have ever seen with peduncles. The lady that works there has a small collection of hoya's inside the GH, 2 huge H. obovata's and 2 huge ropes, a fairly good size H. kerrii and she had a H. erythrina. I had to drool over the table of orchids too, the other GH holds all the cacti, but we never made it over there. In April were going to go again :) Awanda had to keep reminding me to breath... Oh and just really cool pots, I could of spent the whole day there, but there just wasn't time. Karen, I think insurance companies cover traveling expenses for recooping your loss !! And you can warm up too. Guaranteed you wont go home empty handed, may not be a hoya, but it will be something.

And Awanda really is a Biglot junkie, she knows where every Biglots is from Mesa to Phoenix, she pointed them all out !!

Prescott, AZ

Lin, is it Embry Riddle University? I live very close, but Phoenix is about 11/2 hours away. A group Plant Stand invasion, hmmmm sounds very fun.

Mel, LOL we laughed so darn hard, I should not of put on my mascara !! My sister was following us in her car so we wouldn't have to double back to Mesa, she said it looked like we were drunk driving. And no we couldn't leave those poor plants there, I'm to ashamed to mention how many I ended up with... :)

Carol, I did get one for Sahara in Cottonwood, she is really excited about it.

(Zone 1)

Yes ... my husband teaches at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University .... he's been at the Daytona Beach Campus for 31 years!! I wouldn't mind a change of scenery and told him he should transfer to the Prescott campus for a change .... but we have lived on the Coast all our lives and would miss being away from it! He would miss his boat too much! LOL.

But, a little "vacation" would be nice!

Tami I'm going to keep bugging the lady at the Plant Stand about notiflying me when they get a shipment of hoyas in, except for the common ones. That was the Polynuera she had, not erythrina. Oh I did request that Tami and her sister not take any sharp objects into my greenhouse, and the entire time Tami was inside, I stayed right by the door:-).

Blessings,
Awanda

(Zone 1)

LOL Awanda! I don't blame you ..... if I had a greenhouse I wouldn't allow sharp objects near it either!

Wish we had some of those Plant Stand's here in Florida!

Glad you had fun and scored big time!

So.....how many cuttings did you sneak away with, Tami?!?! LOL - I can just see Awanda "guarding" her greenhouse door!! Man, I wanna play - at both the Plant Stand and Big Lots (but mostly at the Plant Stand)! Karen

Vista, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh how very exciting, I think I would have been beside myself!! props to Awanda for only buying 2, Tami I probably would have been in your boat!
I have been fighting the urge to drive to AZ just to look at all the beautiful plants I keep hearing about (it is only 6 hours or so...!), I need a good excuse for my husband;)

We have a nursery called the Plant Stand, but it looks nowhere near as exciting!

Abbie

Prescott, AZ

Oh, so the truth comes out Awanda. Thinking back you were standing there the whole time. But remember when I went back outside to get pictures of your pond and GH..... NOT She did tell us no large bags, sharp objects or scissors. Truth is when we said we were leaving town we really didn't and we went back to your house when Kermit and you left for your appt. Ha Ha Awanda do check in with them, every Tuesday for sure :)

Abbie, they do get all there shipments from California, could be one in the same nursery. 6 hours huh, it may be time to hit California too.

Lin, I am very surprised you can't find hoya's in Florida. I know that they have the DS-70, and lacunosa at the Home Depot. Get out there and start hunting girl.

Karen can you believe her accusing me of stealing hoya clippings.... Some people. So maybe 1 or 2 fell off the plants when I brushed up against them, but it wasn't on purpose, and I don't know how they got in my purse. Hey I just remembered something Awanda, when you were admiring my purse were checking for clippings? Darn your sneaky.....

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Hey Tami I did like you purse, I just wanted to see what it looked like on the inside:-).

Blessings,
Awanda

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

LOL!

I love secret compartments. You were so busy watching over your hoya's, you didn't even notice your kitchenaid was gone :)

(Zone 1)

Every so often our Home Depot or Lowes will have one or two Hoya's. I got two a few months ago from HD .... Lacunosa and one labeled Salewasii that somone on here ID'd as 'Brevialata'. But, right now our HD and Lowes don't have much of anything in the house plant area .... HD has a lot of Ferns and Heart Leaf Philo's, but that's about it. I'm gonna keep checking though, hoping the trucks will be making a delivery soon of some nice new Hoya's!!
