Ha! I like this photo a lot! Thanks
Dea
Oh oh oh! I just love these birds! They look postively dinosaurean! How lucky you are to live where you can see them - thanks for sharing with us!
They are really cool looking. Nice shot Mickey!
No wonder Wiley Coyote never got him! LOL :)
Dea
I dont think Ive ever seen a picture of one of those...neat!
oh those are to cute!!!!
Wow! Great pictures indeed!
I was always under the impression that they were bigger than that. (Too many days of watching the "Runroader" cartoon with my son when he was little.
Are your photos of a mature bird, or a young one?
Sadly it's not my photo but shots my husband took. I didn't see the roadruner when her was here. We don't have as many as there use to be around here. I see them only once in a while. It's funny to hear them cry they sound like a donkey that's sick....
Sorry I didn't get his age so I can't say if he is an adult.
They are realy snoopy little birds.
Mickey
It's an adult. :) It's funny how much 'fluff' birds are. ;-) I'm so used to judging how "big" a bird is by its body mass; I don't consider tails and such when comparing. Interestingly, in the hand, a roadrunner's body isn't too much bigger than a male great-tailed grackle's body--and roughly the same size of the female black-billed magpie I had.
Great photos, Mickey! We sometimes have a roadrunner, but I would say he's much bigger than your lovely critter. I would have guessed that yours was a baby, as the one I usually see here would be about twice his size. But Magpied knows birds waaaaay better than me. I've never been able to get a photo of the roadrunner (yet...)!
Are they 2 different roadrunners MickeyAZ? First one looks like a male and the second one a juvie or a female...
Susie
Same bird. Just different shoots...all taken one after another.
Mickey
So they really do exist and not just a figment of Saturday morning childhoods growing up. How special. : ) Great that you shared them. A really stuip remark hre , but so they go beep-beep? LOL What do they sound like?
Great photos, Mickey! Thanks for sharing.

Here's what I found with two sound bites of a roadrunner. To me they both sound different, and I can't hear the beep-beep...beep-beep
I didn't realize they are that small! Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.
Sharon
oh ok, it's that 3d effect! Looked small next to the plant!
Great photos MickeyAz. I love these guys. We live in far east Texas and I see more here than the years we lived in Az. We had one that lived in our drive for a few summers. We wondered if it was nesting but never saw offspring. Locals say these birds consider snakes a delicacy. I will gladly encourage the road runner to hang out at my house. And, have never heard them before, thanks JoanJ.
My roadrunner is standing next to a 10" pot. I just measured it. I have never heard any beep beep but when they call for a mate it sounds like a sick donkey, you whould never think it was from a roadrunner.
If they know you are watching them, they try and hide. They're very funny.
We've had them hang around the house before and he would always swoop down for the rood or a tree with something in his mouth, like a lizzard or a smake. They eat all kind of baby birds and quail too.
Mickey
Magpied,
He/she is a cutie!
aww...I just love roadrunners! They are EVERYWHERE in these here parts....runnin' alongside your car down dusty caliche roads....nice feathers too..... great baby shot, magpied.. :)
Melanie
Melanie,
Are Roadrunners a 'pest' to humans? Or, are they just cute and fun to watch?
Marilyn
Magpied,
I didn't really mean pest. I just don't know anything about the roadrunners. They look like a cute and fun bird to watch.
Birds aren't pesky, but I just didn't know anything about birds in the Southwest. I'm just interested.
;-))
Marilyn
they are so cute
Road Runners are very curious birds. They can be hand feed with hamburger meat.I have no idea how you do it. I have had them looking into the sliding glass door.
Some people don't like them because they eat baby birds, lizzards and of course no one cares that they eat snakes. My neighbor has one that hangs around her place. She has a barn and he's always checking stuff out. I think they all have their own territory.
Mickey,
Thanks for the information! It would be fun to hand feed them and get up that close to them. It's must be really funny to see them looking into the glass patio doors. What a hoot!
Road Runners are neat, cute and fun! And, now I know, very curious birds. ;-))
Post more photos and more of the activities of the Road Runners when you can please.
