question about amorphophallus

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Do I keep my bulb totally dry or give it a little water? It's in a pot in the gh where it gets light but no sun. I dug down and found the bulb. I know I've seen them unpotted and blooming on a shelf.

This depends on the species: some are completely intolerant of being dried out. Do you know which yours is?

Hi Alistair, thanks for the reply. I was told that it is konjac.

Hi Linda

Then I believe that can be dried off completely. I've seen pics of them flowering with no soil like voodoo lilies.

Thanks, I'll keep it dry and watch for any sign of growth. How old do they have to be to bloom? I received this last summer and it did make the 'tree'.

Others here probably have more experience, but I have only seen them flowering when the tuber is about the size that will fit into two cupped hands (or bigger)....

Linda~

In your zone, A. konjac is fully hardy in the ground--just have good drainage.

They do fine here in 7b year-round as do Typhonium venosum (Sauromatum guttatum etc.).

It was given to me last year, I'll probably find a good place in the ground for it this summer and let it over winter there next year.

hello,
I was wondering if I could ask some questions aboput Konjac? I live in a cooler climate where it rains a lot in january, should I take it out of the ground before the rainy season starts? I just got some smaller bulbs and want them to do well. thanks!
