Our Hobbes has left us.....

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Some of you may have remember my posts a year or so ago about our Golden Retriever Hobbes. She had recently been diagnosed w/ hip dysplasia and was doing ok on medication. Well, we lost our 13 yr old girl on the 28th of Dec. She had looked pitiful walking around but still had her "smile" and was eating, drinking and doing her business up until Wed. She started vomiting wed morning and throughout the day and she wasn't eating or drinking. Wed night she was heading out the door and slipped on the floor and stayed there all night. My husband slept with her there all night. The next morning I tried to picked her up to see if she just needed help getting up and her back legs wouldn't work at all - like they were paralyzed. We got her to the vet and she thinks she may have had a stroke - something neurological. I have to say I believe it was the arthritis shots (Adequan) we had started giving her the week before. She had had 2 shots and got her 3rd on that Wed morning. I thought she stumbled more after each shot, but figured it was pain from the actual shot. There were not suppose to be any side effects.

My husband and I knew this day would come and that we had her longer than expected but it was so sudden. It was also bad that our 11 yr old daughter was out of town and we had to tell her over the phone. I laid with her on the floor of the vet as they administered the shot and just kept telling her we'd see her on the Rainbow Bridge. I know I scared the people in the waiting room to death with my sobs but they just wouldn't stop. It was very hard on my husband as Hobbes was his girl. This summer, we plan on taking her ashes to Smith Mtn Lake where she always went with us (and LOVED the water) and spread her ashes on the lake so she can chase all the fish forever!
