Taken in our backyard (just north of Tucson, AZ).
Love to watch the quail.
Gambel Quail
They are very beautiful Marana! Nice pic!
Marana, nice shot of the quail. Here we have the Calif. Quail, and lots of them. What are you feeding. I feed them Chicken Scratch from Wal Mart, that is the cheapest, has bird seed mixed in with it. Actually yesterday when I went to WM to get some more feed they were sold out. As near as I can count there are somewhere between 200 and 300 coming, actually now that there is so much snow 12 to 14 inches, they just don't leave. Just move around the yard hoping I will put more feed out for them.

We're putting out wild bird seed from Wal-Mart. My husband talks to them when he puts out the seed and now they run towards him when they hear him talking and putting out the seed. They move away when I go out! Then when I go back in the house they come in.
Like your husband I talk to the quail, they come running and will hardly move away when I move.
These guys are so cute Marana! We see them here in Albuquerque too (don't have any good pics tho' ), in the less inhabited areas near the mountains... Seeing Dad or Mom act as "lookout" on tops of boulders and fences for their families and the little babies all in a row...what a joy :)
Great pic!~Amy :)
They re so beautiful! I love those little top feathers!
Marana,
You are so VERY blessed to have those quail!! They used to be so very plentiful here, but due to fire ants, coyotes, and loss of habitat [danged subdivisions!] they are no more.
We had the 'bobwhite' quail in our area, and I so miss their beautiful song. DH said as a boy/young man he would walk/run thru the filelds playing and 'scare them up' and he loved to see them fly up.
We haven't saw or heard any in YEARS even though our particular spot of land has not changed..... :(
Thank you so much for posting the pix!
they are so beautiful
I love all the cool details on their head and wings.
Marana,
They're so adorable! Wished we had them here. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Marana_1
Love your pic.
We have Quail Here.
But because of Jack the Dog
They don`t hang around for long.
Ours are very dull looking compared to yours.
If I`m out on the Ride-On and Jack is asleep
Then I will see 10 to 15 of them in a group.
Usually because I am disturbing their habitat.
