Serendipity

Grand Prairie, TX

This has been my first year to garden with flowers! Have made great progress in transforming my yard into a park - which is my goal! Have planted over 40 rose bushes, lots of iris and daffodils, a bed of tulips in the backyard, about 15 lilac bushes in the back yard, etc. The garden was SO lovely prior to the freeze in early December, and I am grateful I got some pictures taken the week before everything was zapped! Here I post a serendipity of the freeze: the inside of a banana stalk. The whole plant was completely brown and wilted after the freeze, so I cut it down, and was rewarded with this lovely sight glistening in the sun.

As the cutting oxidized in the open air, the pattern of the stalk became even more apparent.

And now we are in the time of the year where the lonely dandelion is the star. This is a photo I took last year around this time, before I had even begun my "park" project. I have always loved dandelions. My Dad used to say I gave him hay fever by having him sniff a bouquet of dandelions I had picked. I was so touched when I looked out the window and saw this one solitary dandelion blooming through the dried leaves.

Mary, that is indeed a very interesting pattern on that banana tree trunk, Mother nature is full of surprises.
It is nice to hear from someone so close to us, maybe we can visit some time, and of course you will have to come to our swap so we cam meet you.
In the meantime keep in touch.

Mary,
Tis a joyful person indeed who can see the uniqueness of a dandelion bloom. :) I see the same beauty in wild thistles...

Hi Frostweed
You'd be welcome to come by any time. We live just north of Interstate 20 - the 1382 exit, to Joe Poole lake. We are over in Arlington all the time.

Mary, thank you for the invitation, I will be delighted to see your garden and to have you come and see mine in the Spring, when there is something to see.
I don't know about yours, but just about everything is dormant in mine right now, so there isn't much to see.
I look forward to meeting you soon.
Josephine.

Mary, I forgot to ask you, which types of plants do you grow the most of?

Roses, Josephine. I have about 40 bushes in the front. I have planted lilacs all around the back fence, but they are all really small still. I am also very interested in irises, and have begun to plant them. I want to put in more roses too. How about you?

Native Plants and Wildflowers here, although I do have some non natives just because I love them.
How are those lilacs working out? I hear that they don't do well around here.

Most lilacs don't do well here in the south, you're right. BUT - there are some new varieties that supposedly will do fine! I have missed lilacs for years, so am anxious to see how they will do. I got them from Wayside Gardens.

I hope they do well for you, they sure smell good. Be sure to let us know how it works out.
Josephine.
