Electric Mixer

I hope this is the proper place to post my question. Oh! And Happy New Year to all -- quiet evening at home for us!

I need to purchase a new mixer. I had a SunBeam for about 35 years and it worked fine. Gave it up in a recent move. I've looked at a few Kitchen Aids, various wattage. Hamilton Beach etc. I don't do ALOT of baking but I do make my own bread at times(have kneaded it by hand in the past), yeast raised recipes, Xmas cookies and cakes.

There seems to be about a $100 difference between the commercial, retail model (Kitchen Aid - $280-250ish and something like a Hamilton Beach $150ish)

Any good advice on whether I should spring for the top model or go with something that "would do". I can afford either..... just trying to be practical and frugal.
