I have found that mealies are just about impossible to avoid in the house. I have had good luck with rinsing them off and spraying with malathion. It is a strong chemical.

Realy you have them often ? Just on African violets or other plants ? In all the years I've grown house plants even when living in PA, OH, RI, Maine, MA :)) I have only been nightmared with them once .
Thank Goodness it was a plant in isolation. I fount malathion is good also but I hate and scared of bugs even an ant so I ended up killing and throwing the plant away anyways :((
