I've posted this on the bug ID forum, but no one has replied. So thought I would post a photo here to see if some of you might know what it is.
It is eating the leaves of my waterlilies and my iris that are in my pond. I am curious to know what kind of moth or butterfly it might be.

To make this challenge even more interesting ....
An Entomologist at the University of Florida is unable to ID it. So if anyone thinks they know what it is, please speak up! I'd really appreciate it!

Here's a photo of the caterpillar this morning. He's definitely changing into something that will hopefully be recognizable.
Possibly armyworm? Not sure.
