I live in central New Jersey and have several cane type begonias that do very well here in pots. I keep them outside in the Summer under a tree so they won't get sunburned and provide them with shade. I also have a few rhizomatus type begonias in pots that do well. At the present time I want to expand my collection of the cane or Angel Wing type begonas. Attached is a photo of my favorite Angel Wing begonia (just after I brought it indoors this Fall) it is a Coralina de Lucerna, one ot the oldest hybrids. My grandmother had one also.
Do others have success with these indoors in colder climates?
Success with cane-type begonias indoors?
Nice growing!

WOW......beautiful plant, wish I could grow em as well as you do
WOWIEZOWIE....That is a magnificient plant....Beautiful and so full and the size of those blooms!!!!! I have an Angel Wing that has always been in the house since we are on an unsheltered bench on the side of a mountain with no where to shade anything and we are in a cold weather zone. I have pinched & pinched and have not gotten mine close to as lush as yours...Do you have any tips? I know mine needs to be repotted into a larger pot but am waiting to get my order of coir...Deb
Hi Everyone!
I love cane type begonias and here is what I've learned to do after many years of growing them. Don't overwater them or they will rot and get fungus infections. Keep out of direct sun, its not their habitat and they will not grow well or set bloom. They tend to be heavy feeders and will bloom well if fed regularly. When I bring them indoors in the Fall I place them in a sunny south facing window and often have to prune them to fit their new location. In the Spring they go back outdoors in a sun dappled location. By late July or August they are covered with huge clusters of flowers. The plant illustrated is about 5 feet tall and just a wide.
Thanks for your responses! I'm new to this site and I'm just learning the ropes.
Gombasz
gombasz gorgous plant ! Well-come to Daves :))
WOW what beautiful begonias. They are my favorite plant. I spent years gathering begonias when I worked in greenhouses in Houston.....after I left, they hired a new grower who didn't like them and let the effort go for nought. I am sick about it because now Logee and other growers want 4 times what I originally paid for them. Does anyone else know a good source for cane and angel wing begonias?
