Hi, hate to be a pest, but I have another question. A friend in Hawaii is willing to send me an inspected cutting. Do I have to wait all the way til spring or is it ok to ship cuttings when it is cold?
Thanks
LeeAnne
Is it too cold?
Hi LeeAnne,
Depending on the area you live. Plumerias don't do well below 50 degrees. I read somewhere yesterday where a lady got her plants but they went to Alaska first. I would think thats strange. She said they arrived in good conditions(I think it was on the hoya forum).

I would definitely wait until spring. This is a terrible time for a cutting to travel. Most cargo holds have freezing temps right now, and who knows where your package will sit between Hawaii and where you are. If your package were to even sit at your door step for an hour, it would be detrimental to the cutting. Most plumeria sellers stop shipping from frost date to frost date of most areas in the country. A cutting can turn to mush if it gets frozen, and if it gets too stressed, it won't root. I wouldn't chance it this time of year.
thank you...I will tell her not to send it...was even thinking overnight UPS...but you never know where they will spend the overnight part...thanks again spring is soooo far away
I know it is hard waiting for spring, but you might try to get your hands on some plumeria seeds that you can sow indoors in the meantime. Some planes have heated cargo holds to keep the temp above freezing, but a stressed plumie won't root for you either so it just isn't worth taking the chance.
