OT.....looking for suggestions

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Hello all!

I will be bringing my mother back with me for a few days from Ohio to Texas and I was looking for some suggestions for places to go. I have already taken her to Galveston, Houston, and San Antonio on previous visits. I was thinking of a two-day trip to Corpus Christi but not sure. She would like to either see beaches or a desert. She'd love to go somewhere to see a real desert with cacti and everything, not sure where the best place would be to see that or if it would be too far to drive. Any ideas? She has really been having a tough time of it here with her parents' health issues so I'd like to make this visit a good one.

Thanks, Kim

Take her to Rockport--they have beaches, whooping cranes, and a thriving artists community. Just an idea.

Hmm....to see any true deserts here in Texas...you would have to drive west of San Antonio into Big Bend country. The Hill Country is neat too tho...especially around Fredericksburg and Kerrville. Hope her trip here is a wonderful one.. :)

Take her to Rockport, Port Aransas, Corpus and then on to the King Ranch in Kingsville. By now you aren't too far from Mexico and you could make this an international visit!
Hope you two can enjoy your time together.

If you think you may go to Mexico, make sure you have both of your passports. New rules require all U.S. travellers leaving the states after Jan. 1st to have valid passports. This even includes travel to Mexico and Canada. I'm not sure how many people are aware of this and would hate for you to "get out" and not "get back in"!

Hello!

Just wanted to send out a big thanks to all the suggestions. We ended up going to Port Aransas the first day and then Corpus Christi the second day. We took a boat ride to see dolphins and went to the state aquarium and the beach. She had a lot of fun. Thanks again!

We are going Friday after school. Can't wait. How did she like the dolphins and the beach?. My kids love the aquarium too.
Glad that you both had a good time.

Hi Blue Eyes! She might enjoy a trip to the Antique Rose Emporium. They allow you to bring a picnic lunch.

She loved the dolphins...every time she visits we have to go to the beach somewhere. She likes to look for seashells. I have taken her to ARE before, but we wanted to go somewhere outside of the area. There is so much in Texas, so every visit we see a little more of it. I'll be going back to ARE myself though soon!
