CLOSED: Looking for Pentas

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I just saw a picture of a Penta on the DG random picture. It is also called Egyptian Star flower. We just got a puppy on Thursday named Egyptian Star, I didn't realize there was a flower named this. I would love to find some seeds!! Also any information on starting them from seeds would be most appreciated.

I don't have a list of my seeds, but give me some ideas of what you are looking for in trade, and I will see what I can come up with.

Thanks,
Deb

I had them last summer and they were beautiful...attracted many butterflies. They were PROLIFIC bloomers! Unfortunately they are annuals here. I tried taking cuttings and had a few to root, so I will have a start this spring. I never saw any seeds...maybe they are very small.

Let me know if you are still looking for some.

Pentas reseed like crazy... I have a young white flowering one, and one that will either flower red or pink, plus lots of very small seedlings too... I will just throw these away unless you would like them. I can also send seeds of what I have.
Based on all the reseeding plants, I can tell you that if you have a hybrid cultivar, it will NOT come true to it's parents colors from seed. (Unless it's a solid color, I think)

Pentas are really common, at least here :)

Here's a link w/ a cultivar which looks just like my pentas, but which I doubt would come true from seed... I'd be happy to send you seeds from it, nonetheless :) The seeds will probably turn into white, red or pink plants.

The link has good sowing instructions, and good info on the plant.

LMK if you'd like the young plants, or seeds, for postage :)

Wow!! Thanks everyone for your offers. Gina, I would love to have some young plants for postage, if you are going to get rid of them! Let me know how much postage you think, and I can send you stamps, money for postage, or if you have paypal, I can send the money that way. Seed starting has never been my forte, so the possibility of small plants sounds much better!!

Thank you so much,
Deb

You're welcome, Deb! I'll reply in the Dmail :)
