sending attachments through windows

Hi

I am running windows 2000 xp professional ,What I would like to know is why I can't send a word file as an attachment. I have scanned a page with my logo ,header etc into a pdf and then converted it to word, so that I could send custom e-mails to prospective customers. I then took a existing word file ( sort of like a form letter) and customised it to a client and pasted it on my blank with logo and header and tried to send as an attachment .I got a message that the program wasn't responding . I was able to send an attachment like this last week to another client (Is my computer dictating who it will and won't send letters to ?) Any help appreciated
