Dry Brug Leaves For Sale?????? What the heck????
LOL, I think that is a first, pretty spaced out if you ask me. For scientific analysis only, yeah I'll bet.
LOL Yeah... dumb ol me.. I was thinkin NO ONE HAS DRY LEAVES THIS TIME OF YEAR! LOL But then again, who the heck cares?
I was wondering when this would happen... They should be shot!!
Gosh, can't it kill people if they take enough? What if a dumb teen buys it. Maybe we should notify ebay of the dangers. Do kids smoke it? I thought they ate it.
My thoughts exactly, Liz. And, he only wants six bucks. Wow!!
Ahem, ok, to be serious here, from what I've read this is a dangerous thing. How the heck can this person get away with this? I'm sure the general public is not aware of the affects this plant can do to you. Truly, someone should report this person. Cause he's selling illegal drugs on e-bay.
every one should file a complaint with e-Bay to have this listing removed before someone gets hurt. I did
I sent this seller an e-mail directly telling him to remove his listing before legal action is taken.
Groovy...I'm so wiped I don't know where I hid my bong...it's been like...THIRTY years...
I wouldn't worry too much. Most kids aren't cruising eBay looking to get angel dusted or score...they're looking for X-Boxes and good deals on video games.
...it's the old timers I'm concerned about...the ones who used to smoke their mother's philodendrons whilst grooving with a transistor radio taped to each ear...
"Whoa, Dude...Hendrix on the left, Morrison on the right...it's like Yasgur's farm all over again!"
Wait, Philodendrons??? Obviously, I missed out on something really awesome there!!
Hey Liz, he only wants 6 bucks. We could go in 1/2 er's ya know....
All kidding aside, it would be people like this that would result in the ban of brug sales on e-bay altogether, and that's just not kosher. They are awesome plants that people want to share for their beauty, and that's the way it should be. Not for the sale of drugs.
True.
But there are certainly any number of plants that can cause damage when ingested. I don't think eBay execs are willing to sort through thousands of plants for the purpose of protecting the community at large.
This fellow just needs a friendly no no from the eBay administrators. I'm sure they know how to handle this fellow.
A followup -- the seller just e-mailed me saying he'd delete his posting.
And he did. No longer for sale, but it still shows up. : )
His other listings are for plants that have psychoactive properties...I'm thinking that this "scientist" likes to take trips, and not the ones that require a suitcase. Lol.
LOL Jackie.
I thought brugs were no fun at all. I thought you always had a very bad time if you ingested them.
Yeah, I don't "play," and maybe he saw that in my e-mail.... maybe someone should bombard him with his other listings. :) Or I could, because I'm just feeling that way tonight. :)
This is what they said to me.
"i took it off.wasn't selling for drug use.strictly gas chromatography investigation.sorry if i have offended you. "
I don't know what that means, but at least the auction is pulled.
People don't know that we have our very own Brugmansia Neighborhood Watch. Those shady deals won't get by our watchful eyes!!!!!
Phill, here is a link, that explain gas chromatography

I think, that is is also used to separate genes and alleles to detect and analyse, what specific DNA- and RNA-strings does. Blakeslee and co. used it a lot in their Datura research. It can also be used to extract and refine alkaloids from plants for use in the medical industry, though many substances used today are synthetic.
Thanks Tonny.
With all due respect to all parties.....
Many, many plants have psychoactive properties to some degree or another, Brugmansias and Daturas included. I vaguely recall reading somewhere that they were/are used by some Native Americans for religious purposes. I wouldn't dream of ingesting them myself (some of the alkaloids they contain seem very frightening), but it's not illegal to sell them either. Therefore, let the market decide.
How many of us have purchased, sold or traded castor beans in the past? Ricin, the toxin they contain, is MUCH more frightening than the alkaloids in Brugmansias and Daturas. From what I understand, ingestion results in a rapid and very unpleasant death - and no antidote is available. But certainly few of us would seriously advocate banning the sale of castor bean seeds.
If some pathetic soul is determined to ingest/inhale/whatever Brugmansia leaves, he/she could always pick up a rooted cutting on eBay. They usually have at least a few leaves. The Brugmansia fan club would suffer a severe blow if those sales were banned.
Just my ever-so-humble opinion, and no disrespect to anyone is intended.
Erick

The things people will do to make a dollar. Thank goodness it has been taken off.
It seems to me any respectable corporation would not buy this kind of thing on Ebay and if they did I’m sure it wouldn’t be for such a small amount. I swept more than that out of my carport this morning. I would assume for testing of that kind to be reliable it must be handled in a sterile environment.
Either way I’m glad they had enough since to remove the listing
Well.. at $6 he wasn't in it for the money..
I'd hate to see Brugs sat on by the powers that fear..and have their trade regulated...as was the case with Peyote..which used to be readdily available from nursery folk..and collectors..
Brugs have been a part of the culture of the native populations in the higher mountain areas of Central and South America ...for many 100's if not many 1000's of years.. and have scores of uses...not just tied to a religeous useage.. Such as ground up and formed into a poltice...and applied to the leggs to relieve swelling..[from a Columbian mountain medicine practitioner] among many other ways..
but there are plenty of psycoactive plants and compounds out there.. which are not abused..due to , in some part , by their rough and eratic nature.. the Amanita mushroom being perhaps the oldest and most widely used in ancient pre history.. one of it's nicknames ... the angel of death perhaps helps somewhat here.. maybe we need a more horrific nackname for our lovely Brugs to keep folks away..The amanita muscaria is said to be the first religeous sacrament mankind used..but as they traveled away from the steeps and it's native habatat.. only the idea of the saccramental aspect was able to be carried forward [waffer anyone ] and not the item it's self. [ R. Gordon Wasson.. Soma.. the Magic Mushroom of Imortality [A. Huxley got the idea of Soma from Wasson and put it in his book. Brave New World ]]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria..
I'd not be too afraid of dried Brug leaves as there is no illegality involved..till you enjoy them... as use and enjoyment of anything can be illegal.. even though not listed as illegal
Like Kell said... I think the word is out it can be a pretty rough ride.. and uncharted mental excercise / exploration is out for todays kids.. when was the last time you heard LSD making the news..
OH Gordo.. stopped at 27 did you... oh com on.. and that " X " your kids are talking about ... might not be boxes or video games.. Gordon
Oh sorry.. my link from the page was broken.. try this

I remember back in the 70's & 80's here in Florida, ocassionally articles in the news about teenagers brewing some kind of tea from Brug's flowers and or leaves to get high ..... and always hearing about some kid being hospitalized because of ingesting it.

I guess you can try to sell anything on ebay!!! Most teenagers that try these methods to get "high" do not know the risks and many do die. There have been many reports of this. Very sad and shocking, but for someone to exploit this by selling such on ebay should be reported to the authorities and have a little vacation in jail, just as someone selling crack on the street corner would do. I am glad he pulled the auction, but perhaps he had gotten some contacts thru the auction so he can sell off ebay
I was to early for the drug seen but I was stoned for the first time this fall when I worked half the night and all the next day getting in my burges before a freeze. I came in and started talking to a friend and I could not say three words with out losing my train of thought. My DH kept saying why do your eyes look so funny. I just laid back on the couch and though, oh well. I sleep until 7:00 the next night and had no pain for three days. I am never out of pain so that was the big shock. Fingers numb also. I think the really bad thing about it is like any drug you think you are fine. Even when it wore off I don't think I would have paid any attention to it until I realized I did not have any pain. I was not careful with the plant at all I just needed to get it done before going out of town. I am sure I had a bath in it, I just wish the Doctors would learn to use the good part and leave the bad part out.
Jestelleoan
Well to be pain free..that's what the report I'd read. said....the Coulmbian medicine man.. making a poltice... I guess ground up leaves steeped in water..and applied like a mud pack over the afflicted areas.... leggs in the example given.. yes.. it would be nice to incorporate the old ways with the best of the new ways... Finding accupuncture for me was a pivitol moment... relief from extream pain... as if a reset buton had been hit... or in a computer..shut down and restarted... to a new sronger painfree world... have you tried accupuncture for your pain... it's about a religeous experience.. . I'm truely impresed... Gordon
It is a drug. Some people use Brug leaves to get high. I recall reading a thread once where someone once saw a couple in a restaurant where there was a brug "licking" the leaves. It is also:
VERY dangerous. They are toxic. That is why we wash our hands after handling our brugs. You don't even want to wipe your eye after handling them unless you've thoroughly washed your hands - we had a member here go temporarily blind after clipping and not washing her hands before wiping her eye.
SUPER STUPID to anyone buying or selling brugmansia leaves for that purpose. And you aren't going to get a cutting off of dry brug leaves, so what other purpose would there be to sell them?

If they want to market the plants to scientists then they should do so accordingly. They shouldn't market something to unknowing people on E-Bay........PERIOD. I realize that scientists may be able to utilize substances that are within the Brugmansia plant (or others) but Ebay is not the place to place the ad. They need to get on the horn and call pharmacuetical companies that have research laboratories if they want to do this.
I have never really cared for Ebay - because of their irresponsibility in what get's posted.
Anyone who wants the leaves for "tests " aren't going to ebay .
For those kind of tests they need to know more than the leaves were dried .
Anyone who has burgs know the leaves , colors , growth - just about everything changes with temperture , water , amount of sun , kind of soil , what they are sprayed with - you can probably add 10 to 25 things that just pop to mind .
You want leaves , just contact someone here and they will let you rake and haul away to your hearts content .
Somewhere I have a list I give to new mothers of poisonous plants . when I find I'll post here . I'll name the post poisons unless some-else does it first .

Check Ebay for salvia divernum. No secret what it is used for. Check out the prices for the plants.
