Hi everyone. I have a NOID that is blooming right now. This is then only AV I have that looks anything like this. Can someone identify it? Thanks so much!!!!
Help with ID
Hi, I don't know what it is, but it is beautiful!!!
Thanks. I have almost thrown it away several times. Then I decided to put it right up by the light with my minis, and that did the trick. : )
Thrown it away????? Wow, I would gladly trade Hubby for a violet like that, love the variegated foliage...
It's lovely! It's nearly impossible to ID a noid, but if you're looking for a "looks like" description, I'd say it "looks like" one of the Buckeye or Apache series of standards... those leaves are gorgeous! I'd give it a name of its own and just put "noid" on its tag also to avoid any confusion when/if you trade... I have AVs called "Big Blue noid" and "Rosie Girl noid," for example.
Thanks, critter. I think it was named when I got it, but I never thought I would have enough plants that I wouldn't remember the names and threw out some name tags. Duh.....
Pam it's beautiful ! You had a lot of named plants ! I know I sent you named ones and leaves. Most likly this is not a Noid. It could also be an Optimara variegated Av.
Pam didn't you have Wrangler's Pink Patches ???
Is this is what it looks like !
Wrangler's Pink Patches (6230) 05/20/1986 (W. Smith) Double light pink pansy/darker center. Variegated dark green and dark pink, pointed. Large
I bet if we went threw some of your old postings we'd find names for your plants :)
Hi Allison. I really do have names for most of my plants. Only a few unnamed. : ) I am wondering if this one is from the very first batch I ever got. They were from Bluebird Greenhouse. I'll go look at Wrangler's Pink Patches and check it out. And I ordered some succulents. I need to go back to work.....I have too much time on my hands. : )
Pam
Allison, I am going to go through some of my old postings, too. That is a great idea. : )
I recall you had Pink Patches :))
I'll see 3 gardeners bid of one hubby and raise that bid w/ your choice of 4 boston terrors and a couple grandkids.

What a beautiful plant. Don't think its from Optimara. Looks like Buckeye to me as well. Certainly is lovely.
Pam did you grow it by leaf ?
No, I think it came as a small plant, if I remember right. I am not 100% certain. It grew very slowly, then just bloomed all at once like that.
BigRed....I'll take the dogs. : )
Well one thing I know it's gorgous ! I looked at every Buckeye lol call me silly crazy lo I don'y think it is but i'm forever wrong.
I think it's a Wrangler . I don't know why I was thinking you bought it from Bluebirds though I could not find the link.
Reason I asked about leaf is I sent you a few different Buckeye leaves.
Well, my Buckeye leaves did great....I have several and I love them. Best leaves I ever got. : )
Hope you find the name of it, it sure is a beauty. Aren't you glad you didn't throw it out?
Cool I'm glad your leaves did well ! Yikes yes are you not glad you threw your beautiful plant away.
One Beautiful Plant! Is it really as Huge as it looks? I want one of those, name or no name!

Looks a lot like the Wranglers 'Pink Patches' to me too!

Me too ! I've grown several by leaf. And seen several. And Bluebirds use to sell this plant. A plant with Variegations each person's is going to look some what different.
Here is one on AVSA Photo gallery.

And picture of FC
I have had them with lots of pink in foliage and some with a little bit.
Pam's has a nice variegation. So did Snows in the PF link you posted Lin.
It does also remind me like Jill said of an Apache AV like
Apache Victory (8005) 10/16/1993 (J. Munk) Semidouble pink frilled pansy, darker shading. Variegated green, white and pink, wavy. Standard
Or Optimara Romance
Optimara Romance (8972) 01/31/2001 (Holtkamp) Single-semidouble pink/darker eye. Variegated green and pinkish cream, heart-shaped, glossy, hairy, scalloped/red back. Standard
Does the foliage have red back Pam ? My old eyes and being bed bound my glasses old I can't see well.
Here is FC Optimara Romance
Here is Apache Victory (8005) 10/16/1993 (J. Munk) Semidouble pink frilled pansy, darker shading. Variegated green, white and pink, wavy. Standard
Check Foliage Pam please is wavy might be Apache
Red/back scallped Optimara
Or just wonderful Variegated dark green and dark pink, pointed. Large
Right back to Wrangler's Pink Patches. If you re-call having any of these ?? I know you had a lot of named Av's :))
It is out of this world stunning great growing !
I remember reading that variegated leaf plants are naturally slow to grow but the outcome is worth the wait. They also require more light because of the lack of green. Both are true in this case.
She sure is a beauty!!!!!!
Just last night I read in an 2005 AV mag an article about variegated plants. It said they need more light and when they are young they need fertilizer with the Nitrogen(the 1st number) being the highest number. This is so they will have more energy to grow. Then when they get a little bigger you can use fertilizer with Phosphate(2nd number) being the higher number. Anytime it starts greening up go back to the first one.
Beautiful AV!!!
Debbie
Pam your gorgous plant made it in DG's news photot of the day ! Congratulations !
That's a good article Debbie !
When the plant is older don't use high nitrogen . Variegated plants while they love more light they also like it cooler.
Pam you did everything perfect with your plant ! Great growing !
Allison, the leaves really do look like that Apache Victory. What is photo of the day and where is it? Woohoo! : ) Neat. : )
Pam I know Bluebirds sold some of these plants and you bought from them.
Pam you go to home then to news
