'Pow Wow', 'Paumanok' and 'Rodeo Country' ....
Just a little "Happy New Year" present from me to me! Can't wait for them to arrive, and I will post a photo as soon as they do!

you got some pretty ones
They are beautiful plants. I especially love the blueberry one. Very healthy looking too. I've been very happy with my order from bluebird last year. I read there website and it says if you can find the 'secret word' or something like that from their dog lucy you get a free plant.
I browsed around their site and couldn't find Lucy anywhere -- plus they have a very comprehnsive site. Has anyone located Lucy?
Plantladylin - so glad you got yourself a gift:-) I think you will be very happy with their plants. i ordered their special, 6 mini's for 19.95 -- can't beat that price. I ordered it last spring. It's just that now I can't order because of the weather. Come spring I may order another mini special from bluebird.

Maureen I've grown a few of S. Sanders Av's Thunder Surprise always one of my favorites. All the African violets of her's in FC are registered. Maybe this is a new one ?? I'll have to ask Libbie.
Maureen: It's Rob's Violet's that gives a free plant if you find the dog "Lucy" and tell them what she says .... I ordered only once from them, a couple of months ago .... 2 Chirita's and a Strep. And, they sent me a free Chirita cause I found Lucy , after MUCH searching! The Strep didn't survive, it was just one leaf and didn't last long at all, but the little Chirita's are looking good. I can't wait for them to grow up and bloom! Maybe Allison can tell me when they should be potted up, or is it better to leave them in the tiny pots they came in?
Maureen: I was thinking about getting that $19.95 special for the 6 mini's, but I need to get up the courage to purchase little mini's .... I have this mind set that if they are that small, I will kill them! I bought a couple of Mini AV's many years ago when some local store was selling them in some cute little self watering type pots .... real tiny things, blooming and so cute .... but alas, I couldn't keep them alive. Don't know why, I don't have too much trouble with the standard sizes!

i have been ordering from bluebird far a long time now.i get a free plant with each order.its just something they do
Lin Chirita's like small pots. You can re-pot it once a year and it will be Happy ! They are use to growing in small cracks of mountains. I like pan or azeala pots which are more shallow for mine.
Miniatures do need a little more grooming, re-pot every 3-4 months. Watering is tricking they need watering more oftern but less . They don't like to dry out or they may sucker . They do not like to be wet and soggy.Don't over pot a 2 to 2.25 for mini and 2.50 for semi/minis is a good size pot for life.
Nurseries, Bluebirds and other growers, grow their plants in heavier soil under special control environments.
I always re-pot mine in a new bleached pot in light-soil-less mix .
If the plant looks Ok when I get it I wait a month before re-potting to let it get comfortable in their new home first.
I wrote a thing or two on growing Minis as I use to be afraid to grow them and use to kill them. Now I like the smaller the better best !
Thanks Allison .... do Chirita's get very large? I kinda figured they would be maybe the size of standard AV's, but this is my first time ever growing them, I had never even heard of Chirita's till I joined DG! I think I will wait another month or so before repotting them and I am going to order some of those small shallow pots I think.
Do you know if there is a mini Chirita? Or they all the same size?

The ones you are growing can get to a good size yes the size of a standard Av. I don't recall any of your's being miniatures ?
Did you see the link from Sticky how to grow Chiritas ? I've posted it a few times. They are very easy to grow I do nothing to mine but water when dry. They like being on the dry side. They like cool weather even 40 degrees and they will live ! I've had some on our screen porch sense begin nov when we moved the sun gets warm and comfy and they are so happy ! Some budded right up and bloomed that I had not got to bloom for awhile..
I have several babies of S. Hiasko growing real nice inside so I'll have one for you in Spring. !

Well I just noticed again your in Florida ! I have several but their small as soon as one gets big enough I can send it along !
Maureen I got a note from Libbie they no longer have Shirl's purple passion :(( so we won't get to see this one I was really hoping for .
They also don't have Precious Pink :((
So I picked 4 new ones for them to sub hoping they have two of them.
I most likly will get my box of goodies from Eunice Christmas this week !
