my xmas present from Violet Barn has arrived :-)

OH my, I am so excited. My box arrived today via Express mail (the charges right on the box were 25.50) and I got the following 3 mini's:

rob's lovebite
Rob's Peddletuck (what the heck kind of a name is this?? sure is pretty though)
Rob's Jitterbug (love it!!)

I love all 3 of them. Beautiful colors and foiliage. I asked for dark colors and they were very gracious in sending me what I wanted. I also got fertilizer and a bag of violet mix and 3 ceramic pots that are really cute. I have a few pics to share with all of you. A special thanks to Allison for bringing this great sale to our attention. Thanks so much Allison. And Cedarnest, did you get your shipment yet?

HI Cedar - did they send you the express mail reference number? You should have gotten yours already as they ship overnight - next day delivery. I think I ordered mine the day after you -- maybe you should check to make sure they are processing your order. I don't know about you, but patience isn't one of my strong points.
Hope you get yours tomorrow. I was at work today and went to www.usps.com and entered the tracking number that Rob's sent me, and it said it was delivered to my home at 10:30 (I was at work, DH was home....trying to sleep - they kept knocking because it requires a signature for delivery).

Thanks Allison, you are such an inspiration to a/v's growers!! When I'm at work and I think - I hate my job - I remember all the nice plants I buy and how all I want to do is be with my family and grow flowers.....so then my job doesn't seem so bad after all. And thanks for all of your information on each of these. I really love them all. I already have a few pale pinks so I really wanted the darker colors -- and I'm a purple and blue lover so I was really happy. These mini's are so adorable. That's what my collection is mostly of. I figure if I grow mini's I have room for more. My house is very small - like a cottage (900 sq. feet) so there is not lots of places for plants - unless I start taking over my son's bedroom and that ain't going to happen:-)

glad I got it when I did. I was speaking to my DH before (he working tonight) and I said, thanks for the Christmas present you got me, the 3 a/v's are really pretty. He gave a cute chuckle:-)

How long do I have to isolate these plants? The bad thing about isolating new plants is that I can't put them on my plant stand with the grow lights. I can't get another plants stand.....

Can you put them in a window during the warmth of the day and sun and then put them under a lamp on end table or so during afternoon, evening hours ?
I would isolate them a few months . I grew many a plant in natural light or on end table or dresser under a lamp with excellent sucess !
They are so Healthy looking !
Put them some where you can see them a lot ! I move mine around like furniture !
I know about spcae our home next door we sold in Nov. was one bedroom trailer, small ad on Florida room living rm and eat in kitchen , one bathroom. But loads of wonderful windows my hubby put shelves in and under !

Oh what cute little AV's you got there Maureen! Drat! Wish I had seen that Rob's special! Love those cute little ceramic pots too! Guess I better keep a better eye on Rob's website for his specials! I don't have many AV's, and I really want to try some of those mini's and also maybe one of the trailing ones!

Debbie Rob has a section where it says Specials , you have to check often. Most are different or rare plants, plants they don't normaly sell and they offer them to us for short times !
Eunice got three beautiful plants from his Special I think from her sister while back !

Oh Happy Day! Mine Arrived Today in Beautiful Bloom! I received Rob's Peedletuck-semi,Rob's Ooey Gooey -semi, and Rob's Loose Noodle-mini along with 3 different colored mini ceramic pots,a bag of potting soil and a packet of constant feed 15-30-15 Volkman Bros. fertilizer that makes 25 gallons.That ought to take care of fertilizing for quite awhile! LOL Oh I am so excited I almost forgot to add the picture! Hubby even likes them : ) Nancy

I know their so cute and pretty ! Maureen and Nancy do those little pots have saucers ? I saw Rob sells them on his web sight different sizes I think, 2,3,and 4 inch different colors. They are so nice. I almost bought some before !

Allison,The saucers are attached to the pots and have a drainage hole on the side.They are really dandy little pots.I am going to see if I can purchase some more this spring.They seem perfect for minis and semi's.wonder what other colors they come in?

I love the pots, too... I have some like that, with the little attached saucers, and I bottom water them by plunking them into a tray with about an inch of lukewarm water (enough to go up over the little saucer)... I've also put wicks into the pot that can trail down out of the saucer and into a water reservoir.

Oh Nancy, yours are beautiful too. We got a beautiful gift, didn't we? Allison, the pots are the same ones he sells on his website, and they have built in saucers. Look at Nancy's pic and you will see the saucers which are attached to the pot. I'm not sure what size these are - 2" or 3"? Maybe 2". I saw the prices for the saucers on his website, I think the 2" was 3.00 -- not bad at all. It makes a pretty presentation.

The reason some of you didn't see the post about the sale, was because Allison had posted in on a thread about something else, it just came up during the thread. I happened to be reading it and thought "a sale, I must take a look".

We will all have to be on the look out for sales and post a thread about it when we come across one.

I have a question about the fertilizer they sent, it contains urea -- I've been reading that we should stay away from fertilizer with urea, any thoughts on that?

I'm surprised as it's Volkman's right ? I have herd good about them . If your using VF-11 don't use it. If you do use it use it weak like 1/8 teaspoon per gallon . If you don't want to use it on AV's use it on any other plants will be fine.
Rob I know says he uses a food himself with all equal numbers.

Allison, yes it is volkman's. I haven't been using any fert. and I wasn't planning on using this volkman's either - only because I'm waiting to get my vfll sample in.

If you want this volkman's fertilizer I will be happy to mail it out to you. It's in a flat pack and can go in a bubble mailer.

I've been looking at those pots Rob sells starting at only $3.00 they are so nice !

They really are nice, as my collection grows I may buy a few more of these pots to keep the mini's in. allison, would you plant directly into the ceramic pot, or would you take the plastic container and put that in the ceramic pot?

I've always kept mine in a plastic pot. I've never potted a plant right into a ceramic pot. With the holes and drainage you could try it ! I know people pot right into tea cups.

I'm like Allison .... I use the ceramic pots and other cute ones as sorta "cache" pots .... just plop the plastic pot into the decorative one. I'm always looking for "pretty" pots to hide the plastic ones!
