We lost about 15 bales of hay when it rained and the roof leaked in one corner, down the wall, across a ledge and soaked everything. One of those freak things. Fixing the roof is on our list and has just moved up to the top. Anyway, we tossed about 10 bales to the cows next door on Christmas Eve and put the rest out in the sun. I've been checking it very carefully before feeding. Today, Thump and Buddy refused to eat so I checked theirs again. Once I broke open their flakes, I found some mildew and gathered it all up and tossed out of their reach and went to get D's. D was happily munching away. I checked his too and it was the same so took it. I know it supposedly takes very little to make them sick and kill them. What do I watch for? Also, after I got back in from getting D's away from him and giving the boys' the girl's alfafa/timothy mix, I found Allie with her head thru the fence eating the bad stuff that I didn't throw far enough out of reach. If they get sick, how quickly?
Thanks,
