I hope you all had a Merry Christmas. This is what was blooming at my house today. I've never had one bloom at Christmas and it was so nice that it was blooming today. Best wishes to all and I hope you have a happy New Year.

wow beautifull,i can,t grow them ,i think i water them to death
Beautiful ! All ours grow outside year round. I took pictures of two in bloom in my camera :)) I was waiting on the yellow one a new one from a cutting from a friend to bloom ! It has buds. Hope it's Ok after our horrible weather last year.
We re-pot our's each Spring , they do not like to go dry like other Cactus . We water them when dry or they get rain !
To pot these from a cutting, do you just stick a little bit down in the soil and wait for it to start growing? I've never started one of these from a cutting before so this will be a new experience for me.

Jesse ..some say you need to let it dry on the end before planting but I just find a sm 4" pot and stick it in and they take off ..I have a true red one that I have in 3 pot's but not enought to make a nice hanging basket I am going to make that my project for this coming year ..one beautiful hanging basket.by dec.2007...Gingerose
How large of a cutting do you start with? They grow in segments or pieces, so how many segments do you need for a good cutting? And how far down do you push them in the soil? I have 11 of them so I have plenty to take cuttings from.

Jesse I had someone send me a two inch cutting and I grew a nice plant from it ! I do the same small pot I use same soil-less mix for everything. Stick it in water and it grows ! I have making plants for others stuck a few to several cuttings into small pots and this worked real well also ! They make real nice Holiday gifts !
I've had good luck taking a piece with a couple of larger segments, plus maybe an "ear" or three on top... I put them down half an inch to an inch in barely moist potting mix, and they "take" more often than not. Mix that's on the dry side plus a bag to retain humidity might help them to root while lessining the possibility of rot....
Jesse, those plants are beautiful. I love the 2nd pic -- looks apricot, so pretty.
