Rosamond x Dr. D trial for Vee8ch

Hooks, TX

I'm very pleased with the results I'm having with Vicki's trial brug. On Nov. 11, 2006, it only had 5 tiny roots - some 1/4" and some 1/2". On Nov. 15, it had 6-8 roots that were 1"-1 1/2". I planted it in a mixture of Jiffy Potting Mix Plus, perlite and good compost. It has been in a room with day temp of 74 and night temp of 68 under a grow light for 10-12 hours a day. I will post two pictures taken today - one long shot and one from the top. Vicki requested that I keep her posted on the brug forum and/or in Dmail about the progress.
This is my first year with brugs and the first one to trial for anyone and I hope I do things correctly. I think it may be ready to have a larger pot soon. The pot it is in now is only 7" across the top and 7 1/2" tall. I didn't expect this much growth so soon. There may be blooms this spring, it seems.

If I need to change anything, I welcome suggestions from those who grow all the beautiful ones posted on this forum.

Here is the picture from the top.

I wish some others who are trialing this same brug would post pictures and descriptions of their cutting here also.

Lousie you must be doing eveything right because it looks great.

Thanks, Ruth. The cuttings that you set to me are doing great also. I'm looking forward to this spring and having more pictures to share than the two I posted this year.

Everyone has been so generous with sending cuttings. I look at the huge flushes posted here and so desperately want to grow some just like them!

Update for Vicki (Vee8ch)-

Your trial brug has been moved up to a larger pot,
has two standards and seems to be doing very well.
Looks like I may have blooms this spring!

I sent the wrong picture- will try again -

I tried to delete this picture and couldn't. If someone knows how to, please let me know.

Looks great Louise! Great job!

Growing well... wish mine looked so good. Between the bugs and the hail, several of mine look like they have been through a shredder.

Thanks to both of you -
The trial one hasn't 'y'd' yet but 3 or 4 others that are only 12-15 inches high have the 'y' already. I'm wondering if a plant that short will set blooms.

I've been at this effort with brugs for a little over a year, have had only two blooms so far, but lots and lots of plants from cuttings that I have rooted. I hope this is my year to have flushes like those that inspired this obsession.

I'm grateful to many generous DG'ers who have shared cuttings and seeds. Maybe I will be able to return the favors to others in the future! I now have about 30 plants and, just yesterday, planted the remainder of my seed from 'kareoke' (including her own cross of Dr. Seuss x Snowcone and Charles Grimaldi x Rosamond & Creamsickle). Now, to find a place for all of them!

Louise M.

p.s.- I'm still addicted to just cruising the brug forum and drooling over all the beautiful flushes of DG'ers who obviously know how to grow them.
