Thank you... Violet_Treasure

Does anyone else have some of these seeds? I am really looking forward to planting these on my fence in the Spring... will be very generous in trade...on my rare seeds.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Glad I could give you a few :)) Hope we both have luck growing them. I'm hoping with our long growing season if I get them started inside I may get seeds the first year :)) I'm excited !

Seabrook, TX(Zone 9a)

I know I am really excited!!
I am going to start them inside under lights so I can really get a head start this Spring.
I am trying to get some white mg bush seeds (very rare) to come up under lights right now.

love gardening so very much LOL!!!!!
Tricia

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I fount white MG seeds but not bush ones yet. Will let you know if I do !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I'm surprised there are not more Vigna Caracalla -Corkscrew Vine
donors around :)) I see several people in Plant Files frowing this wonderous plant ! Is it hard to get seeds from ? I read in PF where someone got flowers first year. With our long growing season sometimes all year I think I shall have lots of seeds to share ! Wishin and Hopin !

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

i have a plant but no seeds sorry

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Mortez has your plant bloomed yet ? Are seeds had to get ? Far and few between ? Did you grow yours by seed or cutting or plant ? I am looking forward to growing some with seed going to get them started inside here soon !

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

You need some ants to pollinate it naturally, or pollinate the bloom yourself using the q-tip method.

Usually when folks se e ants all over their plants they go and get out the bug killers and don't realize they are killing a natural pollinator in the process.

Using the q-tip method you may have to try pollinating at different time s of the day. You need to make sure the pollen is fluffy and that there is stigmatic fluid showing when making the crosses. As the flower reproductive parts are tiny, use a magnifing glass to help see things better.

Seabrook, TX(Zone 9a)

Thank you for the helpful advice! I was reading that making the cuttings from the Corkscrew is easy so you can be sure If I will be making a lot of cuttings:)
when I get my seeds going.
Thanks! Tricia

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I bought a $12 pkg from one vendor that only had about 12 seeds in it. Then I found another vendor selling corkscrew vine seeds for under $3.00. I guess its rarity depends on what part of the US your seeds come from.

Seabrook, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Cordeledawg
sent you a D-Mail
Thanks! Tricia

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

You have to be sure when you buy them that you are getting Vigna and not Phaseolus (snailvine). Many sellers don't know the difference and the 2 are often confused or considered by some to be the same. The problem is that they are late bloomers and seldom have time to set seed before cold weather sets in for most of the country.
I planted mine late this year and only got one pod which dropped prematurely. They normally go for a premium price due to availability. There are certain times of the year that they are more readily available.

Seabrook, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh I know budgielover people do get them mixed up alot...
The Snail Vine is quite common here I can get it in my local nursery but the Corkscrew is not at all common and is so very beautiful.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks for all the info about RARE Vigna Caracalla -Corkscrew Vine :))
I fell in love with this plant and bought 5 seeds for $12.00 from Onelee ( Sorry misspelled) and she gave me a few extra so I am sharing half with Tricia !!
I'd am going to start my 4 early Jan :)) and hope with long growing season I can get some seeds to share with others :))
I can also take cuttings !
Also I read about the tubers has anyone done this method ?
We do have ants and were always spraying so I will make sure we let these ants live ! Thanks so much for the tips and help Starlight.
I have also read where many get this rare vine " Vigna Caracalla -Corkscrew Vine " mixed up with Phaseolus.
Jan is this the first year you grew your's ?
I notice Plant files has six vendors that sell them. Most plant sellers out of stock until June...

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I have both and the Vigna is 2nd year but 1st year were spent in 1 gal pots. The snailvine has been in for several years and blooms year round whereas the vigna is only seasonal. The phaseolus is more aggressive and easier to care for than vigna. Vigna does not like to be overwatered. Phaseolus roots easily from cuttings, vigna, not as easy. They are usually more available in spring due to weather and seed starting and shipping. I don't sell during the winter months as I don't want to bother with heat packs, insulation, etc. I am getting ready to start a bunch of seeds now to have some well rooted plants for spring sales.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Jan Wow Cool ! I did not know your selling ! Cool do you have a web sight or Nursery now :))
I've been reading on Plant Files
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/1884/index.html
and looking at the pictures of this wonderous vine and fell in love and right away even though they were above budget I had to buy some :))
Hoping for the best and seeds to share :)) We have lots of vine and garden area beds to grow in our new yard and I have the perfect arch way trellis for it where I will have plants planted on each side and they can go up and over ! I read where some people got blooms first year !
I also read where one persons seeds pods they had to bring in to finish drying as it got cold. And to their Suprise several gave them plants !
Very exciting :))
