Orchid medium for potting up brugs

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Well the cuttings are in the water and slowly they are rotting...I had tons at the beginning and now they are dwindling....I am not using the bubbler this time since they did rot about February...this year without the bubbler they started to rot before December...so now Im going to pot up most of the rest in an orchid medium and the infamous "red cups" of Kell....I bought them yesterday and now today my first day on xmas break ,Im going to take the plunge....Im thinking I should put holes in the bottom of the cups and put them in a plastic shoe box to catch the water but Im not sure about that yet..any good advice before I start?....I hope this saves the rest of my babies since I sure want to see these bloom this summer....Judy

Oh too bad Judy. I have never used orchid medium myself for rooting. Though my begonias sure like that stuff. Have you had luck with it before?

I stick a sharp knife down as I hold 2 cups at a time. I make about 4 holes each cup. I still use them. I love them. I also put them in those white plastic containers but I do not water in them. I take the container to the sink and water from there by taking each out and then letting it drain in the sink.

I get rot too when not in spring and summer. So now I have them outside in the cold to root. Call me nuts! LOL. But I kept reading how great people were doing in the buckets of water in 50 degrees making roots so I decided to try it that way. And so far so good. I put mine in dirt though, I always have trouble in water.

I wish you great luck. Nothing worse than watching rot set in!
