I just can't kill this one!!

A lovely friend gave me this variegated Alocasia macrorrhizos. THANK YOU PATRICIA!!!

How should I take care of it for winter. It is putting out a new leaf so I am hoping it is happy. But I am getting a brown dot on the 1 good leaf.

It is a baby in a 4 inch pot. I have been in love with this plant since I first saw it at the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers. It is such a dramatic looker! How lucky was I to get such a gift?

I will be too sad if I kill it. Any hints on winter care under lights?

keep it warm or it will go completely dormant. If all the leaves die off don't worry it will come back, even in the greenhouse here they tend to die back each winter.

Should I move it to the rack with the heating pad? I just bought a thermastat for the heating pad. What should it be set on Kyle?

Kyle, remember the tiny EE that tagged along on its own in a box of I can't remember what now a couple of years ago? It was just a tiny thing. Well it is getting big. I love it.

I had moved it into the hoophouse for winter to keep it out of all the rain and now I have a rotted wet leaf. I was thinking of moving it back out onto my open sided porch. Should I just clean out the rotted spot and put rooting powder in the wound?

kell the Macro. variegata needs about 72 F to stay happy. The green and yellow one is Gageana variegata it is happy at lower temps for winter. slack off on the water if you can, a deadly combo for plants (tropicals) Is Cold AND Wet at the same time.45F and colder and wet for any length of time is bad for most tropicals.Dry and cold is one thing but try to avoid the two conditions at one time.As for the rotted area, clean the area and put a little rooting powder on it.it will heal.

Thank you for sharing comments on Aroids Forum, Macro Variegata and Gaglana Varigated.

Anyone in TEXAS know where I can buy one of these?
Thanks and Happy New Year

Thanks Kyle. Around here in winter it is hard to avoid cold and wet. I swear I am death to EEs! Though the Gageana variegata I grew from a bitty thing about 1 inch tall. But I did it with much neglect. Maybe that is the trouble, the ones I pay great attention to I kill. LOL

Good luck finding one, Sudie.
