seed source for Blood turnip beet

Southern Mountains, GA(Zone 6b)

Been reading up some past posts by Farmerdill and others about beets. I found Thomas Jefferson's Monticello foundation offers Early Blood Turnip-rooted Beet seeds and I'm wondering if there is another source. Also, maybe like to try some of the Crosby Egyptian type. This unseasonably warm weather has me unconvinced that I still have to go through winter. At least I can start getting my seeds so I'll be ready come March.

http://www.merrifieldgardencenter.com/products.php?openparent=1096&pid= They carry Wetzels seeds mailorder. available locally in Virginia and some adjoining states. Dewings Early Blood Turnip is supposedly an improved version, but most likely afetr a hundred years is basicly the same beet.

Thanks Dill, I'm going to check that out. I also searched out Heirloom seeds last night and they carry both the blood turnip and crosby egyptian. I like to combine orders to save on shipping if I can.

Framer dill, I was wondering if you knew if the Early Blood Turnip Beet offered by Heirloom Seeds is reasonably close to the Lutz Blood Turnip you recommended previously? Thanks.

Rose, I never heard of a Lutz blood turnip. The Lutz Green Leaf beet is still widely available, but most noted as a long season storage beet. The one that I like used to called Burpee's Improved Blood Turnip, now mostly sold as Early Blood Turnip. When I was a kid, we got the seed from Southern States Cooperative.

roseone, I grew "Bull's Blood" this past year and really liked it. It, too, is an heirloom and both the leaves and the roots were delish! I got my seeds from Johnny's.

Ok, I guess my imagination is working overtime, as usual. Anyway, I ordered the Early Blood Tunip Beet and the Crosby's Egyptian from Heirloom Seeds, so that will do it for me for beets this year.

Thanks Shoe, I will try to get a lot of spring crops going this year to avoid the temptation to use almost all my space on tomatoes, like I did last year. I had so many I was shipping them to my son every week in Wilmington, NC. It was expendsive but he sure did enjoy them.

Geeze, I wish I'd read this last week. We skipped going to Merryfield when we were just in Northern VA. It's a short drive down the road from the in-laws. I usually go. It's a horticultural wonderland!

I was just going through Baker Creek's catalog and saw Bull's Blood Beetroot. I'm not sure if it's the same thing as you were looking for, but if so, it says there are 250 seeds per pack or you can buy it in larger quantities. Sorry for not reading all the posts, please disregard if this is a dupe. :)
