New member and bromeliad lover

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Hi, I just joined Dave's and look forward to meeting all of you and sharing a fondness for Bromeliads.I have several and look forward to sharing, trading, and finding new sources for more plants.Hope to get some pictures posted of some of my plants.Several of mine have lost their labels over the years and maybe some of you can identify them for me.Being that I don't show my plants, the loss of their names doesn't really upset me that much,I still enjoy their beauty.I have somewhere around 50 plants and a ton of pups and, just purchased 3 more plants. I have Bromeliad fever. Hope to enjoy myself, here at Dave's.

Welcome - I'm sure we'll try to ID things for you.
The sites at http://fcbs.org/ and http://www.bsi.org/ have a wealth of Bromeliad information.

I think you take beautiful pictures!!
Keep up the good work!!!
I love the purple on in the front right corner of the first picture.
Some of us can only dream of growing bromeliads in the ground and have them do as well as yours.
The striped ones in the last picture caught my eye as well.
Welcome to Dave's!!

I'm jealous!
It takes Florida sun and humidity to get conformation like that on those Neoregelias.

Peggy, welcome to the forum! I turned a mess of invasive plants in the backyard into my "Bromeliad Wonderland" as I like to call it. I recently thinned some of mine and tried to organize them a little better. I'll have to get out and take some pictures soon. I have a cluster of billbergia saundersii that are just poking out their blooms. Except one bloomed last week (see pic below). Don't you love Florida? Plants don't seem to understand it's December. This forum is also a great way to obtain plants as most of us love to trade. My dad is a mailman and I trade with two guys on his route. This morning I sent Dad off with a vriesea and a guzmania for each of them. I have a few guzmanias that have pupped like crazy so I'll probably be on here soon trying to trade them. Welcome to the club!

Mellie, Thank you for the welcome. Don't you just love Bromeliads..and most of them are so easy to take care of. I'll be thinning and potting up plants soon,too..for trades. I would love to hear about your plants and other members plants ..and compare notes, wish lists, and sources. What forum here on Dave's do you offer your bromeliads for trade? It's going to take me awhile to learn my way around Dave's. Peggy

Mellie you are the sweetest sharing and trading :)) That is so neat you share plants with people on your Dad's route !
My Purple Star is so Happy ! I just love these plants.
Peggy so nice to meet you ! Gardening is so much fun ! I can't do it anymore and my hubby's health is limited to what he can do makes growing these beautiful plants such a joy !
You both have beautiful plants ! Thanks for sharing them :))

Peggy,
You can list your bromeliad trades on this forum and also on the 'Plant Trading' forum. Welcome to DG !!! We look forward to visiting your garden through your pictures and also swapping plants along the way.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2007.
Keep in touch,

I love bromeliads! They've always looked like something you would expect to see growing on a strange planet on "Star Trek". They're so out-of-this-world. And Louise was right, you can trade here or in the trade forum. Oh, and the guys on Dad's route give me plants too, so it's all good. I'm growing plumerias from seed I got from one of them, and he also gave me two full-grown plumerias. Some of my bromeliads pup so fast I need to give them away so I have room for more! It definitely helps that they're so easy. When I was rearranging mine, I had them laying around and Dad was worried since you generally don't want to dig plants up and leave them lying around. So we had a little lesson on bromeliads and Dad was sold! They're so low maintenance and so pretty! What more could you ask for?
