Nice set up :)) Thanks for sharing !
Did you say you have a Nursery also ? What type of plants do you grow ?

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

Yes,I have a small perennial nursery raising mainly root hardy perennials, hostas, ferns, hydrangeas, daylilies, etc. The past few years I have gotten into flowering shrubs and small, blooming understory trees. Fell in love with styrax japonica (Jap. Silverbells) found seeds for american styrax last year but don't expect the american varity to bloom for a couple more years.

Oh, nice Bigred. I would love to have a space like that with all those grow lights for babies! I used to have a big 25'X25' greenhouse, but had my husband dismantle it about 15 years ago. It wasn't heated and in the winter it got pretty cold and I had to drag all my plants inside if we had freezing temperatures. After he took it down he built a huge wood deck in the same space. Eventually that came down too. Now I have flower beds in that area! I wouldn't mind having another GH, but just on a smaller scale. We still have a large wood deck next to our screened pool enclosure, but this deck has a roof, so I still have a lot of space for plants!

Oh, I bet it's fun having your own perennial nursery, and a lot of work too! I would love it .... playing in the dirt all day! Do you sell on a website, catalog, or just locally out of your nursery?

I bet your garden is beautiful!

I don't heat my greenhouses. I only grow what's hardy enough to stand out weather.

I retail and wholesale localy because it's just me running the nursery so pulling, prepping plants for boxing, boxing and shipping takes too much time. I hope my granddaughter will one day want to help.

I do farmers market in two locations and bus plants to my wholesale clients as well as in-store sales Wed.thur Sat during peak growing season.

Unfortunately all this kept me from working in my yard this year and it looks like the devil. I started down sizing flowerbeds back to lawn this year because I have no time to tend them

I have hub's two kids,6 grandkids,1 1/2 acres of yard,3 bedroom house,teach exercise classes 3 x's a week,livestock,rental properties,president of a garden club,vol. garden/landscaping for city park a couple times a year, also First Responder and vol. firefighter. DANG! Suddely I'm tired and need a nap...LOL

I like the Episcia plants you are growing ,Must have a trade with you for that Strawberry Patch or what ever its called ..love the color ..what do you do to make them grow so beautiful ..What kind of soil and how do you water them .would love to have one of your seed babys that you have so many of ..In a trade no less... I have Corduroy Episcia and KeeWee..Faye

Faye,
I mix my own soil from a peat base.
20qts. peat
8qts. vermucilite
6qts.med grade perlite
2T.of lime
3T super phosphate
This recipe is just a guesstimation. I add or delete vermucilite and perlite by look and feel.

Start small seedlings out w/ very weak solution of fish emulsion once they've been potted up on their own for 2-3 weeks. Once they're 6-8 weeks old I switch to a weak solution of all purpose fertilizer. Every 6-8 weeks I water w/ warm water for about 2 weeks to flush then back to weak all purpose fertilizer.

I only have a few av's right now so I water each one individualy with a turkey basting bulb but once I get all my plants from my leaves potted up, I'll go buy some carpet pad remnants, cut it to fit in the bottom of the trays, sit the pots on that and water by moistening the pad. This method won't work w/ dixie cups.

Whoops...flip flop that to:
8 qts of perlite
6 qts vermucilite
