What's the best way of getting rid of these unwelcome guests? I had them earlier in my columbines and now in the rose campions. I don't think they're the same species.

I think of them as more a cosmetic problem than any real threat to the columbines. The best defense is to pluck off all leaves with the tell-tale signs, just ass soon as you see them. I don't think they hurt the health of the columbine, at least it never did any permanent damage to mine.
