Wow, how fun! A forum for Hoya!
I just bought my very first Hoya today at a
local hardware store. It was wrapped around
a wooden loop and sold as Hoya Carnosa Loop,
so here I was looking for such a variety, only
to laugh when I realized there is no "Loop" variety.
Thanks to PanamonCreel for sending me this way.
Can anyone help me to identify my Hoya based on
the photo I've included? And one more favor, if I may ask,
could someone tell me what I might use on the leaves
to make them nice and shiny? They seem a bit drab
and dull with a film on them.
Thank you all so much!
Karen Marie
Good grief! A forum just for Hoya?
Wuvie...I love your name!!!
What you have is H. carnosa 'Krimson Queen' - I'm pretty sure I am right. There are so many cultivars and crosses and clones and and and of H. carnosa...and all of them are beautiful!!!!! Your plant is gorgeous!!!
Lots of time in the nurseries fertilizers, fungicides etc. that are used on the plants leave scummy stuff...it really is the salts and stuff they have used. Please don't use oil...plants need to have their 'pores' clear and oil gives beautiful leaves but the plant suffers. I have heard that wiping them down with vinegar will take the scummy stuff away....and then if you give it a good shower and drench it well, you should get rid of any build up in the soil and the vinegar on the leaves. Showers are a good thing to do for them anyway...they love the moisture and the drenching...just like a rain forest...and it won't stain the carpet!!! LOL Yes...warm room temp water.
Enjoy...hope this helps...
Hi there!
Many thanks for your wonderful and informative post!
Your'e a doll, thank you!
Ah, yes, a vinegar wipe and a good shower are in order.
I just knew Dave's would have the answer. Thank you, AlohaHoya!
Hi Wuvie,
Beautiful hoya you have there . Great find.
Patti
Nice hoya!
And Welcome, BTW!!
Lemon Juice also works really well to remove hard water deposits on leaves....not just for hoyas but for many other plants.
