I'm so sad,

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Its cold here in Al.and I didn't watch the news to see how cold it would be last night. The wood stove went out during the night(it got down to 18) and all the plants on the window sills are limp and mushy. Will they come back? I don't have any batteries to take pictures but they look pretty bad.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh no :( sorry to hear that jannich. Doesn't sound good. Maybe if there is some spark of life left...new leaves will grow out for you. Violets can be resilient and surprise us sometimes. Good luck and if they are lost, new plants will come your way in the spring. With all you've been through, I wish I could send you something now to make you smile.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Sorry Jan :((
They may come back as they were cold for short period of time . Remove all plants from your windowsills. Good thing to remeber for people growing plants in windowsills they will get 10 degrees colder than your room temeprtures . Even here in Florida cold nights we remove them from and away from windows and drafts.
Hopefuly they will recover. See if there is a good leaf or two on each one you could save to grow babies. Even soaking the leaf stem in hot water might save it.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Oh Jan that is just terrible. I am sure it is heartbreaking for you.Hopefully they aren't as bad as they seem.Keep us posted!

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Jan,
I am so sorry that happened. I sure do hope they come back out for you, or that you can at least save some leaves.
Hugs,

Thanks everyone,I spent the day taking off mushy leaves but even the stems are turning mushy.I put down the leaves that I thought maybe would root. It looks pretty hopeless. These are double windows with 3 shelves in each window.Quite a few plants.I'm pretty heartbroken.

So the big question is>>>> How much bad luck can a widowed woman have?
Answer----Alot ...LOL

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, no..... :-(

*hugs*

Maybe they won't die all the way to the crown.... my fingers will be crossed for you to salvage some leaves or crowns.... So sorry!

Thank you,I do hope 2007 will be better than this year! I 'm glad this only happened in one room. I was supposed to put plastic on these windows but I forgot to.The plants spent last winter in the same place and no problem.

Good news the plants away from the windows is gooding great. steps are blooming, choc.soilder has 2 flowers opening, blue heaven is blooming and good old south shore rose has been blooming for a month but shes suckering like crazy. So it's a good day after all:)
