Well Ardesia .. i think this one is gonna get you too!

I've got my greenhouse locked up tight, drained all the water out of the hoses and attachments and filled my kerosene jug.

OK, panic is setting in here now. I covered my tropical Hibiscus last night and was relieved to see it was 37 at 5 am. However, now that the sun is up and the temp should be warming up it is down to 34!!!!!

Freaky weather for sure. That heat wave we had last week really created some problems, nothing is hardened enough for this cold. Tonight is supposed to be colder than last night. Brrrrrrrr

I was glad to see this morning that my greenhouse heating system is working good. The coldest it got was 38°, I have the thermostat set for 40.

Ardesia, before I had the greenhouse I used to cover plants and put a lamp in with them with a 40 watt light bulb. Seemed to work good for me.

Hey, you guys are making us "Northerners" laugh!! Of course, we make the Virginians laugh, who make the Delaware folks laugh, who make....and so on and so forth. Aren't we lucky we live where the 20's is REALLY cold???!!!!
I wanted to post a funny picture of my potted Brugmansia yesterday--for some reason, it is blooming its head off (please note, it failed to bloom all summer....). Half the plant got frozen Wednesday night, but half did not (.. weird 3 foot microclimate.....). So one half was completely wilted and brown and the other, all on the same plant, was green and tropical and covered with about 12 huge blooms! The whole plant bit the dust last night, though. I usually put it under the house in my basement, but this is my year to see if it "survives."

I know, we Lowcountry folks are spoiled gardeners (me especially).

We just have much more experience worrying about the heat. Besides worrying about our plants, this weather causes one to have to wear lots of clothes, a real pain when you are accustomed to shorts and a tee. LOL

BRRRR.....to go along with the EEEEEK...!!

Was a low of 19º here this morning. Yumping yiminny! And calling for a lower low for tomorrow morning. However, not busted pipes, and no dead plants yet. My Winter garden stuff (cabbage, collards, turnip/kale/mustard greens) love this weather and only taste better and better!

Yotedog, your brug may have bit the dust on the foliage but I bet the roots are gonna be fine; you'll just have to keep them moist, especially being in a pot. I had some that were in the ground and they came back each year (Dr. Seuss and a couple varieties of some Pinks).

Oh well, at least there is no ice on the ground yet. Would hate to have to put shoes on.

I second you on that shoe thing 'Shoe!! I still go out in shorts and the neighbors laugh at me, but the frosty pine cones force me into shoes against my will.....

Aahhh! 70* today and more of the same forecast for the weekend.

I love this weather .. it's so nice to have the house open and not having to wear layers of clothes!

It is so nice we had sand gnats today! (nothing is perfect)

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

And it's so nice we aren't running either the heater or the air conditioner! We're getting rich in savings with this warm weather, folks! Yay!

Doesn't that mean more $ for plants. :-))))))

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Ardesia: That's the spirit! I'm with you! :) LOL
No gnats here, but I could swear I saw a mosquito today.

I think global warming is here. They are having kittens over in europe because there is no snow and everything is starting to bloom!

With trees bursting into bud and ski runs looking like spring meadows, the Alpine winter appears to have been cancelled

Yes, it's very odd. I have relatives in England who've had unusually warm weather, too.
If this keeps up, X, we can change our zone to #9! Feels like spring...except for that early sunset part.

The plants certainly think it is spring; buds are swelling again. This see/saw weather is really hard on them; they don't know if they are coming or going. (Actually, that is how I feel this week.) :-))))

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Ohhh dogwoods looking a little to happy. I don't want the blooms to get screwed up on those. The last couple of years just hasn't been good for plants. Not enough water at the right time, blazing sun dead middle of the summer (no clouds at all), cold followed by warm all in a few days. The weather just is helping us at all.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I finally cleared out my canna bed and was disappointed to see a lot of new growth coming up there and also in my ginger beds.

X: Same here. I keep telling them, "stay down, stay down!" but they just won't listen. I hope we'll get at least some slightly cooler nights this week to maybe cue the plants that it's still winter.
