Anyone Growing Silverglade Streams ??
This was my plant I loved so a few years ago. I progated many babies from leaves, shared leaves and gave everyone away even Mom went to an elderly friend who fell in love with her. It's hard to tell in this picture but she had the prettiest flowers with minty green edge flowers.
I'd love to buy or trade a couple leaves if anyone may have her please !

I did a quick Google search for Silverglade Streams and didn't come up with anything. Also checked Ebay. Maybe someone out there is growing it? Good luck

What is your favorite way to propagate leaves?

yES I keep my eyes open ! I have grown thousands of Av babies by leaf and tried every method :)) For fun !
The most fun way was when I took a damp paper towel and placed it into a large zip-lock bag. I took a leaf from Optimara Little Diamond cut the stem across leaving about a 1/2 inch or less and layed the leaf on the towel . I kept the bag blown up and warm on top of a tv box. It got plenty of light from windows surrounding the room. It was not long before I had roots but several tiny leaves. I kept it there until it was a good size baby. It was so much fun watching her grow ! Then I potted her up in a tiny little two inch pot before long she was blooming and sharing more of her leaves to grow more babies :))
All the ways I've even done were fun and easy !
In the begining I bought only blooming plants. I had read it takes 9-12 months from the time you put down a leaf until you have a blooming plant. I was not supose to live that long.
Then I was given a free leaf and i loved growing by leaf so mch I kept putting them down !
When I went to my first AV meeting I was given bags and bags of named leaves all in there own bag with FC info stapled on the bag ! I was given a bag of solo 3 0z cups with five hole in each one. I was given a plastic 6 qrt. shoe box. I bought the best soil-less mix from the group. I was given easy direction .
A couple weeks later I ordered my first big order of leaves from Tinia BloomLovers I think it is. I ordered about 100 different varieties :)) I did a lot of trades, bought bags of leaves at shows for .50 cents, won plants I took apart at each meeting in raffles, every plant I got I put leaves down.

Interesting, VT!
Many good ways to propagate violets from leaves. Have you ever bought leaves off of Ebay? Unless it is a very trusted seller, I always worry that the leaves received may not be what's advertised. I guess there is always a risk. The thing is, it can takes months of TLC to find out.

There was this one buyer recently that paid almost $80.00 plus shipping for 1 leaf (yes, 1 leaf not a plant!) of 'Caribbean Blue' , a common violet one can get from Lyons I believe. The item #320054569729 - auction ended Dec.01-06

Yes wasn't that something! I think I started with the very first bid on that one then let it go, goodness gracious.

Oh man, sempervi! I've never seen anything like that before....for 1 leaf. Hard to believe, isn't it? Well, now you know where you can get a whole plant from the hybridizer for a few dollars.

Allison.. I just love the "teapot planters" in your pictures..they are so pretty ..what do you do with the lids? ..just pick them up..or do you ever use the lids again ..the reason I ask this is because I have about 20 teapots ..that are just gathering dust ..and I will put my plants in then ..but hate to store lids if I dont use them.

I did a search and found all of the Silverglade's African Violets. You can look at this and see which one it is that you are looking for. Then maybe we can help you find it. http://qwip.net/silverglades/

I sometimes just display the lid with the plant and pot. Picture above is from like three years ago.
I mostly bought leaves from Vendors. I bought hundreds and hundreds of different varities from Fay.
Hundreds from Tina Bloomlovers
Hundred plus from Blooming jungle couple years ago when she'd have her buy 2 get one free.
I bought a leaf or two from Bluebirds, Violetgallery but fount it more worth my money to buy the plant and use the leaves
I got hundreds of leaves in trades
Hundreds at Violet show/sales
I use to get bags and bags of named leaves at our local Av meeting plus I'd go home with 5-10 plus plants as I liked to buy the most raffle tickets :))
I don't buy or really grow anymore.
I have a few leaves down a friend gave me . She is also giving me a bloom basket of Russian Snow Leopard as she is the new owner of my large one. and she has leaves of Brass Band and some other oldies for me. I also got a sucker baby from her of a rare AV I forget the name off hand. She had Mom with lots of sucker babies she brought some plants over last month or so for me to take them off and help her pot up.
I don't have the window like I use to and no more lights or stands nor the health or funds to grow.
Just great memories :))
I'd like in the Spring buy a set of SelectiveGardner's miniatures that have the well with suctions to your windows !
A few years ago I had many, many Silverglades and was offered a whole collection of them. I had no idea how wonderful they were or their worth and turned them down. I was crazy. And then there were ladies in our local Av group who had been growing for years and I was new and they'd tell me they did not like Silverglades they were too common and just looked like Optimaras. Not knowing any better I wanted Different, Vintage, rare ...
Now I love the Optimaras and Silverglades :))
