Feeding birds in wintertime

I cleaned out the fridge this morning and found some stale English muffins and added a quarter loaf of stale bread to it.
I placed the bread at the foot of the driveway and then went to look at my rose bush. When I was ready to go inside I looked back and saw this big "bird" eating voraciously at the bread.
