Mom's Pow Wow started blooming again so she wanted me to share with everyone. Pow Wow seems to have a lot of fans out there.

Beautiful plants ! Thanks for sharing :))

Mellie....does your Mom grow in natural light? She must be so proud of her beauties....

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Snowrose, all of Mom's gesneriads are in the master bathroom. Two sides of the walls are glass block and there are two small half-circle windows up high above the glass block. So I guess that's a long way of saying yes. I think the combination of the strong, indirect light and the humidity of the bathroom create a great environment for them.

Pow Wow......WOW

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

They obviously look as if they are very happy in their environment.

Love the coloring on Easter Bunny. Great job in growing.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I think that maroon color on Pow Wow is stunning! I would love to see her bathroom wall....

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks everyone! Mom's collected too many and now we need to buy a plant stand. She started by setting them around the garden tub, but now they're taking over!

Denver, CO

I think Red and White as a combination are the most classy of colours.

Boy, whatever she's doing don't change it. Gorgeous plants.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

It's funny, Mom has a black thumb with everything else, but she's always been able to grow gesneriads. I don't let her touch anything in the yard, though, lol!

Wow! That 'Pow Wow' is ...... well ..... WOW!

I want that one! I will have to do a google search and see if I can find it available anywhere!

I love the flower color as well as the leaves. Your mom really has a green thumb with African Violets!

I Love Pow-Wow's foliage!

Honestly, I'd love to see a photo of that bathroom, too!
Think Mom would feel funny about that? LOL! (I think I would!)

Thanks Allison! Some nice sites! Saw some photo's of some I would Love to have!

Yeah, would love to see a photo of your mom's bathroom with all those plants! Wish one of our two bathrooms were large enough to put a few plants! We have 2 bathrooms, but they are both very small. One has a small window, but it faces west and gets VERY Hot, Bright afternoon sun, so I can't keep anything in that window in the summer. I do have two Amaryllis bulbs growing in Pebbles/Water in that window right now....they sprouted real fast, hope to have blooms to photograph before too long!

In the other bathroom (no window), I have orchids hanging on the towel bars, in the shower stall and on the chain from the light fixture! Keep the light on for them, but I have to move them outside during the day and back inside in early evening because it's a bit too cool out at night lately!

Would love to have a room of "Just AV's"!!! Maybe I need a greenhouse! LOL. Had a huge one many years ago, guess I shouldn't have had my DH dismantle the thing!

Lin

Lin, now we have to have a picture of your bathroom also with the hanging orchids.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Yeah, Lin....come on!

(GASP!) You had your DH dismantle a greenhouse?!
What *were* you thinking?!?!?! LOL!!!(Ü)

I found out from reading the AV threads here on DG that I kept losing AVs because my bedroom is too cool for them, winter and summer. So I brought a small greenhouse inside and put my few plants in it and they immediately stopped dying. So I bought more plants which of course made a second greenhouse necessary. I haven't been able to work outside since early in the summer due to illness, but I can putz around with these plants and still get dirt under my fingernails. Things are arranged differently since this picture was taken, with the second greenhouse now filling up with more AV plants instead of seed flats, but you can see my rudimentary setup. The bright windows and the tables from a thrift shop make it work. I have added heat mats also. My AVs are quite healthy now and a great joy. I don't yet have anything as pretty as the pictures you are posting here, but I will have some day.

Nooooooooooo Way! LOL. Maybe one day if I get in there and clean real good! Only have one orchid blooming right now and it's on this plant stand I bought from Wal-Mart two weeks ago.

Oh Gardengram .... I could use that room you have there! Great set-up!

Lin

(Zone 1)

Gardengram: I forgot to ask .... where did you find those greenhouses? Something like that would sure come in handy for me to use in my "Florida" Room when we have cold weather during January/February! My Fla Room (porch) is enclosed but not heated .... so it can get pretty cold out there in the winter months. I have an electric quartz heater that my husband says I should use, but I am so afraid of those space heaters starting fires that I don't like to use it, unless absolutely necessary! I would love to have a room the size of yours just for plants! I could fill that space and then some, very easily! LOL.

Lin--I bought the first greenhouse several years ago from ABC Distributing. It was only $13.95 or something like that. I used it outside trying to start seeds in the spring. I don't do seeds any more due to too many failed attempts and my growing frustration and sinking cash fund for such things. I had it just packed away until the AV thing came up. Right at the time I was outgrowing the first greenhouse I found one for about $50 from the National Gardening Club. Didn't want to pay that much, but couldn't find one any place else, so I bit the bullet. I bought the heat mats on ebay and I think I have seven of them spread out around on and under the lower shelves (my theory there is that heat rises). I don't have any way to do artificial lighting, so have to depend on the Lord for that. The greenhouses are now pushed over into the corner, the ficus reaches the top of the windows and sits on the far right side, the rubber tree lives at my daughter's house, and the arrowhead ivy you can barely see behind the chair is now huge and sits next to the ficus. There are other big miscellaneous pots crammed up in there, too. All of those plants live outside under the trees or on the front porch in the summer.

I bought this house over seven years ago with one of my daughters and her family. We created an in-law apartment on the lower level for me. I love my big windows. That area used to be a carport and had been bricked in by the previous owners, but that's all they ever did with it. When we bought this house, we created a big bathroom with a big corner shower, a walk-in closet and all the rest is my bedroom. I think it's 18' by 15' or something like that. What used to be the den is my living room. I have lots of space and am handy to the rest of the tri-level house. There is a huge back yard, in which I have created lots of flower beds and pathways, and a large front yard, in which I expanded the beds that were already there and added two more.

Anyway, that's getting us off the track. Sorry. I just really love my space.

Picture of Mom's bathroom...hmmm...this may be the motivation she needs to clean the place. Mom's kind of a packrat. We do need to repot some, so maybe we can do that this weekend and then I'll take a picture. I'm having a yard sale this Saturday and I'm trying to convince Mom that if we sell the old stuff, we can buy new plant stands! I love those greenhouses Gardengram has. Nice!

(Zone 1)

Gradengram: I love your space too! Sounds wonderful! And, oh so nice that you have your daughter and family right there!
I sure wish ABC Distributing still had something like that greenhouse! I buy stuff from them too. And, I also belong to Nat'l Home Gardening Club .... may have to think about getting one from there, even if it's $50. On my plant stand, I just hung some shop lights that I bought at Wal-Mart for $9.45 and they work just fine.

Diane I love your set up ! I have a couple of those greenhouses I got for $13.95 a few years ago from LTD I think the name is. They are same company from where you got yours. Even after a few years of everyday use their still in good condition. I have one on my proch now with some plants.
Your plants and gardens sound so nice ! Thanks for sharing.

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

Thanks, you guys!! (Another expression from the old days.) Nothing fancy. It'll be a long time before I can spend any money on them, but I am happy with the greenhouse space I have. Any plant increase will have to come from starting my own leaves, but I have learned to love doing that. Lin, you have good space too. Don't you just love sunny windows?

You and your Mom sure grow many different types of beautiful plants ! Thanks for sharing !

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

The more I look at it, the more I consider finding one!

(It's the foliage that's the big 'clincher' for me, but the combination is stunning!)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I think Violet Gallery sells them :))

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks for the tip!
Have you ever purchased from Violet Gallery?

I just might 'bite' in the near future!
