Put on your best sunhat. Put on your sunlotion. Grab those cucumber sandwiches and let's have a party!!!!
EVERYBODY welcome!!!!
Diane
Cream tea anyone?
Oh great, thanks for the invite Diane. Cream Teas yumyum, my mouth is watering just at the thought. Memories of holidays down in Cornwall, and St Micheals Mount.
It's another scorcher over here too. I've been for a walk with little-um to the shop and i'm just about done-in for the day. I was hoping to get out and take some cuttings for a friend but I think i might be pushing my luck in this heat.
See you about 4pm Diane, ( mines milk no sugar)
cheers
trina
Hey Diane,
If it's 4 o'clock in the UK, what time would that be Texas time? I sure
don't want to be late for my first
English Tea Party, in respect for
it's little sweetheart of a hostess!
Make mine scones w/strawberry
Conserve and Tea w/Lemon.
Thanks for the invite!
Jerrie

Jerrie
It would be 10 am for you, the difference is 6 hours.
Diane
Thanks for the invite, mind if I bring me wellies just in case we have some good English weather?
Thank you so much, Diane for all those wonderful recipes. Just 2 things, What is Devon cream? And when you pour the tea, does the milk go in the cup first or after the tea is poured? Are we all going to sit down together? If tea is served at 4PM in England, then that means we sit down at 10AM, so we can all enjoy our tea at the same time. Would that work??
Forgot to ask, on the cucumber sandwiches, do we use butter on the bread or mayonnaise? Doris
I use butter on mine and slice everso thinly and take off the skin. Very refined don't you know.
It's too hot for tea, yet my parents always say drinking tea cools you down. Can't see that myself rather have a cold beer or lemonade. I'll have the cream scones though very yummy. I make my own and put some in a welcome pack in our holiday cottage, always gets a great response.
Love Carol
Ohh definitely butter and the crusts cut off, no mayo!
Tea should have the milk put in last as hot water onto cold milk curdles it (not much but I'm told it tastes diferent, its really just a taste thing). Devon cream? Maybe clotted cream, dunno cos I can't stand cream. If cream is to be used then the best is from Channel Island cattle and they are all over the country. More clarification is required from a cream liker :)
Southmede
I have to say I think you're parents are right. Lemonade or beer has much more sugar than tea and that heats you up. I hope the cottage is doing a lot of good trade this year, considering the Spring troubles, and what a lovely idea.
Hi folks! This is a weekend Cream Tea Party! I couldn't get back into DG again yesterday - I'm having access problems. I hit the key and all I get is a message saying saying it can't display the page.
I always use butter, not mayonnnaise. Um, let's have that butter into nice little curls shall we? Scoop scoop dum de dum sings to herself. Oh yes, that's a pretty butter dish! Got my best china here! I'll put out some nice bread for you. Now those sandwiches. Off goes those crusts, cut, cut, cut. On goes the butter. Now as for this cucumber. Very very thin slices. Gently does it. Ease them on. Now cut these into little triangles. Yes, that's the sandwiches.
Devon cream, I think it's simply from the herds in Devon. That's our West Country. An agricultural area. Very pretty too. Very thick and creamy. Yum yum. They take the milk from the cows and turn it into clotted cream.
Hmmm it's Sunday morning here, which means my American friends are all asleep and snoring maybe? Well, I'll just waft all these delicious smells and fragrances over the Atlantic. Sweet dreams!
Now which tea? I've got Earl Grey, Kenya and Assam. Earl Grey I think. I always put the milk in first. That's the way you do it so it doesn't curdle. But I've got some lemon slices as well. I'm not using tea bags, it's tea leaves, so I've looked out the strainer. And of course, remember to warm the pot first.
Tea's the right drink whatever the weather. It warms you up. It cools you down.
Heres the scones. These are ones I made earlier. (Always wanted to say that!) A nice generous dab of butter. Plus a genrous scoop of home-made strawberry jam. Topped by clotted cream. Delicious!
Now have I got enough places for evryone? Let me see. There's Baa, she's brought her wellies. Bit unusual for a tea-party but well, there's a first time for evrything. A place for Daisy. Good to see you Daisy! Not too far to come on a hot day. Well, hello, this is Jerrie!!! I'm so glad you could make it Jerrie! I like that stetson, it'll really go with Baa's wellies. Shall I put it somewhere out of the way for you? Yes, that's more comfortable. And here's Doris and here's Carol just after her. Hello to you both. Do you all know each other?
I wonder if anyone will be coming? Louisa would lkie this I'm sure. Spikeyjo? I think she's often away at the weekends. Spikeyjo, I'd better shout a bit louder, COOEE SPIKEYJO. I'm having a tea-party!
Now do you think any of the men would like to come? There's Alan and Mark. Well, you're all invited too. Perhaps I'd better put one or two ice-cold beers aside...
Welcome to my tea-party everyone!!!
oooh someone mention cream scones? count me in! and a nice cup of earl grey if you please, with the pinkie sticking out when you hold the cup. I've brought my best hat too, wore it on ladies day .... *sips tea*...ahh that's better. Much too hot here for my english complexion. Coooooeeeee, is everyone here??
lil
Beer, that was the magic word Diane, lol, especialy a cold one, been hot lately.
Hello Lil! Hello Alan! I'm so glad you could both make it. I put aside a few beers for the menfolk. I'll just nip down to the cellar and get them. They should be nice and cool down there. Might be a few spiders down there. Perhpas I'd better take a torch.
Creak creak creak. Oh that door needs oiling. Thud thud thud. Haven't been down these steps in a long time...
Eek! What was that? *a little furry body with whiskers and a tail whisks by* Oh a mouse!!!
Now let me see. Homebrew? That potcheen is potent stuff. Bit of dandelion wine here. Some gooseberry wine too. Got a real kick in them those have. Maybe not the best thing for a genteel party. What's this? *brushes off some cobwebs* Rat poison. No, not today.
That corner looks more promising. Right, got it, got a gootle of geer!
Thud thud thud. Creak creak creak.
Right boys, come and get it!!!
Munch, munch, ohh these sandwiches are just delightful! The tea is just perfect. Do you have any sugar cubes, please? Crunch! the scones are heavenly! (They are supposed to crunch?) My, cloth napkins, too! (You don't call them that, do you?) A beautiful day to relax.
Diane - stoppit, please STOPPIT!!!!! I can't live my life any longer without cream teas!! How can you do this to me???? It's torture, utter torture!! Now what's that wafting up the stairs - oops, why of course, its the roast beef and yorkshire puds, green beans and carrots and peas, crispy roast potatoes and to-die-for gravy. Now I wonder what we can have for desert - I know strawberries drizzled with Grand Marnier atop a small sponge circle, covered in jam and topped with creme anglaise!! I AM the greatest cook - goodbye!! ....LOLOLOL!!!!
Diane,
Sounds good to me. I have some nice cinnamon & apple tea and coconut cookies. Can I come to the party?
Hello HoniBee! My! those smell divine!!! Mmmmmmmm munch munch munch taste good too. Pull up a chair. I'll just get your serviette.
We've got a warm summer evening here. The children round me are all on their school holidays now. It's great to hear the sound of children playing. I've just been over to see Mrs Singh, that's my neighbour. I took some poppy seeds over for her and some foxglove seeds. She and her husband Dave put on an extension earlier this spring. They have three little boys, and Dave's mum also lives with them. They also have lots of cousins living nearby.
Mrs Singh gave me some good news. She's expecting again. She hasn't even had time yet to go to her doctor, but yes, she's definitely expecting baby number four.
So I'm sure all the guests at my tea party will join me in drinking a toast to her and her new little one.
All the best Mrs Singh!
Well, Northerner, you've been posting all over the forums with invitations to the party, I thought I'd pop in and say hello!
I do love this cream tea!
Hello Killerdaisy! Great to see you. It's hot here. Too hot for anything energetic. Maybe that's why we sit and have tea and scones instead?
My Mum used to have lots of tea parties. I've got all her recipe books, all her hand-embroidered linen table cloths and several beautiful services of china.
I'm too busy most of the time doing my computing courses to do very much entertaining. But this is fun!!!
I've looked out the silver tea-service. That's the silver teapot, water jug, milk jug, sugar bowl and sugar tongs. I've decided to use the Rockingham China with them. Yes, it all looks very grand.
Shall I be mother?
I waited till 8.00pm and then mowed one of the lawns, its still so hot the sweat was dripping from me, you getting sun burn in your garden Dianne ?, make sure you have a hat for the party.
Mary I make the best scones ever, so my neighbours back home would tell me. When I get a minute, I will mail you the recipe. They are easy to make you just got to get the right amount of water and milk, perfect depth, the perfect oven temp and away you go. Then when they are cooked you split them in two and fill them with anything you like. For us it would be clotted cream and jam :-)
Oh, Diane, everthing was simply scrumptous! And your settings so
elegant. I am sure we were all
truly honored with the considerations
that went into making this a most
magnificent party. It's a long way
back to Texas, so I'll be taking my
Stetson now, and bidding y'all a
fond adieu.
Jerrie
eyes - you brought a smile to my face :-). Mary give me a nudge if I take too long OK!!!
you have it Mary!!
Diane, the "boys" didn't show up! You should have brought up the "good stuff" from the cellar!
Well, I made it back to the {ranch} in Texas.....Sure wish I'd brought some of those delicious scones and strawberry conserve with me for the trip home. I'm so hungry now I could eat a whole, big old Longhorn by myself!! We gotta do this again soon. I had myself a mighty fine time.
"eyes"
=o}
you should also try these traditional scottish drop scones at the tea party, they're gorgeous with cream and jam, just warm from the griddle. Here's a link to a recipe http://scottishculture.about.com/library/blrecipe_drop.htm?once=true& . My granny used to make these a lot, and rock cakes too for 'high tea'.
lil
Oh Lil! What a wonderful page! I've bookmarked it and it's something I've got to spend time in exploring. Plus the recipes! Thank you so much!!!
How about a game of croquet after tea, very relaxing and jolly good fun.
That sounds like fun! People over here don't seem to play that any more. Count me in!
Who has got the best lawn? very fine grass needed and who is going to dust off those croquet hoops. My lawn has the shape of the furrows from when it was a meadow in years gone by. It would be more like playing crazy golf.................
The first time I had cream tea was at Sulgrave Manor. I was staioned at RAF Alconbury and wanted to check out the ancestrial home of George Washington.
Tea was served in the ancient, converted stables. It was love at first sight/bite for me!
I know I'm several months late; but I just discovered this site. Can we have another cream tea!
I think that it may be time for toasted crumpets or muffins with a hot strong cup of tea. I love it when the butter drips right through. Would 4 o'clock be convenient for everyone?
Oh dear. I have a slight problem when I look at these posts at uni - we're not allowed to bring food next to the computers. Or hot drinks... So here I sit, drooling.
Another cream tea sounds brilliant. Or toasted crumpets or muffins. Welcome Caroline. Are you serving, Southmede? Are you going to be Mum?
Don't know why you can't have a cup of tea while you're on the computer. You're already drooling on the keyboard! I'm, sure the tea will be going on in full force by the time you get home. Hurry up! Everyones starting to gather!
Hey Jeeves are you here??????? Well Northerner did say to come even if she's not home and that Jeeves would take care of us. Oh there you are Jeeves, we miss you over at the bar-b, the girls really liked how you looked after us. Well if you can, come on back until Northerner gets home. Leave her a note and tell we'll all come over when she's home from Uni.
Coooooeee!!!! Jeeves!!! Ah, he's left a note for me. "Gone fishing". That's Jeeves code for "out for the day." Better potter around and see where he's got to.
Well, now that Jeeves is out, now might be a good time to look in his diary. It has "What the Butler saw" on the cover. I'll just take a look upstairs first...
Oh my, that sounds interesting! I just popped over to see if you made any goodies and a cuppa! Needed a breather from that rowdy bunch. I hope Jeeves kept his diary up to date! Should make excellant reading!
