Melanie was so kind to send me a large beautiful Neo. Purple Star !
She is enjoying her new garden bed with her new friends !
Thanks again so much for my Purple Star Melanie :))
Purple Star and her new friends !
Allison,
That's beautiful!!! Love the coloring.
It looks right at home in her new bed. (I say her, because she's pink). LOL
Looks like you have the makings of your own bromeliad garden.
Janet
I call this Brom Cindy as a friend gave a few small Bromelaids to us over a year ago. This plant was not even a tuny handful and was all green. I asked her about it if it bloomed ... she said it was nothing Special she had tons of them growing in her back yard. We planted it time went by a ramp/deck got put up in front of the garden bed and Colues and other plants covered it from sight. A few months ago I noticed it was getting light and had grwon large and was deep fushia, burgundy. WOW I could not wait to get the gardners to trans-plant it out of there when we moved last month. She seems very happy. She is large too.
Tri-Color is behind her.
Thanks Janet :))
This nes garden is good size. It has red and yellow crown of thorn, a few Plumeiras, Begonias, Peace Plant, Bromelaids, some vine plants in back growing up trellis. I still have room for more plants, play with seeds and vines and watch it fill out ! I have another small round Bromelaid garden with Plumeiras . I also put some Purple leaf Oxlis carrot bulbs in several areas in the gardens a few days ago :)) In Feb/March we hope to be able to have a few more of our garden beds perpare. I have a lot of fun seeds to play with :))
Our Hibiscus were not happy being trans-planted. We don't think the gardners took up enough roots. Our Plumeiras were full of foliage and blooming I think they just pukked them out of the ground. They will be fine thou and come back in spring.
Were really enjoying growing Bromelaids ! Hope to get more in Spring !
I'm so glad your Purple Star is happy with her new friends. Be careful about what you wish for - I have lots of pups that will be needing good homes soon. The best one that's pupped is my Neo Medusa - it's spineless! My surprise this morning was seeing that one of my billbergia saundersii was blooming! I just moved them about two or three weeks ago and there was nothing. Now, like magic, I have this...
billbergia saundersii is so pretyy love the seep pink !
What do you mean by spineless ?
OH I fount a photo of billbergia saundersii and her blooms so so pretty too ;))
Lovely plants. I think spineless means the leaves don't have the spikes that catch you.
Thank you ! Yes I was thinking the same thing. I fount a picture of
billbergia saundersii she's really pretty :))
Our Aechmea
Name: fasciata var. purpurea
we have had about 6 years we had one. Then we kept getting pups that grow large fast at a young age. We have been able to share pups with many people. And our dark fushia , burgundy plant I grow Cindy we got a year and half or so ago. Other than these all the other plants we just got this year I have fallen in love with their beauty and ease of growing !
Allison, the neo. medusa doesn't have the thorny edges on the leaves like most bromeliads. Apparently, it was bred for that purpose. The color of it is also great - a deep red in the middle. I usually have so many scratches up and down my arms I'm afraid people are going to think I have issues, lol! Those aechmea fasciata are great. I bought two at Home Depot early this year and I recently replanted them and now I have seven! Here's Neo Medusa...
Your neo. medusa is beautiful ! Do many of them have smooth edges ?
Allison,
Your pemiento is absolutely gorgeous!!!
The coloring is perfect!! I hope mine turns like that this spring.
Purple Star and Cindy compliment the coloring very well.
Gotta get me one of those purple star. LOL!!!
On a side note, the hibiscus need a lot of water when transplanting. I found this out this spring. We had to practically leave the hose on it for an hour or so each day, to really soak it in.
Janet
As far as I know Medusa is the only one bred to have smooth edges like that. I'm sure the hybridizers are hard at work making more varieties. Last time I was at USF their bromeliad expert was there and we were joking about the armor we have to wear to garden.
Janet I was also reading not only sun gives colors to Neo. but cooler weather too. When we had the plants trans-planted two Hibiscus we had to pay gardners and my husband said they did not take enough roots like the just lifted the plants up. My husband was watering them and watering them I thought he might have over watered. If they don't come back will have to get new ones. This red one was already here in our new year different garden the gardner wanted to move it here to new garden for color it was all in bloom. And another Hibiscus we had in other yard did the same thing. One I wish we got and did not is blooming crazy. I asked new owner if I could take pictures he said yes. I asked him for a seedling liner they call them ? he said yes. I'm patiently waiting if not I'll buy one or ask Bob junglebob who I got the cutting for in Spring this year for a new cutting :)) As I have fallen in love with the flowers :))
Melanie I guess I'm lucky I cant do the gardening part just the joy of looking at them :))
I wonder why they have these sharp edges to make sure they are not eaten by animals ?
Beautiful ! I love these plants :))
Beautiful ! Where do you get your Broms ? I don't mind what their names are either I just really love them !
Beautiful ! This past week I think Friday or Saturday at Sunkens Gardens there was going to be special garden things going on. On the news there was a Bromelaid grower that grow 2,000 varieites was going to be there selling, lessons and so on :)) You could even bring your dogs. I told my Nurse oh how I wish I could go to that. Bedbound though I stuck with mail order or trades or sharing people :))
Love looking at all your pictures of wonderful plants ! Thanks for sharing !
