I have gotten really into these plants, and want at least one of every species. If you grow ANY, please contact me, even if you don't know the species name, etc. I am willing to trade from my list, send postage, or hunt down something you want, for the right seeds.I am especially wanting the DARK PURPLE single-flowered type.
Wanted: anyone who grows datura
I emailed you
Ahh, what about the double black Datura? Its purple on the inside and outside of its corolla as opposed to the one most people have of the purples....lets see, there are what...9 species of Datura and so many variables, not to mention 6 species of Brugmansia which are even more heavenly in my humble oppinion. Of course, look who your talking to....
Brugmansia

Brugmansia, are you saying you might happen to have some of these seeds/??? Would be interested in one or two.
Tig, I don't grow Datura. I do know where I last saw a double black datura though. Try www.nativehabitat.com as they were the ones who had it. Don't know if they have anymore, but they did have it at one point. Well, they at least had one specimen, it may have been their own private plant and not one they were selling.Of course the Datura ferox is would be my favorite if I were to have one. At anyrate, it never hurts to ask and nativehabitat has a wide selection of datura seeds and Brugmansia seeds. Of course I must say they are one of my favorite places.
just wondering if you had stashed a datura seed back!! LOL:) I have one that's taking forever to bloom, and it's a purple double, I can't wait to see the inside.
i emailed you judith..this is the first that i stumbled on this thread.how dark is dark..we'll do our best

I have a lot of light lavender datura. I went out to take a pic but they were closed up already, but I took one anyway.

It drops seed and starts plants all over the place. I pull them out like weeds. If it has room it will get HUGE and is covered in blooms constantly.
wow I bet that's a beauty when it's open,loon!!!!!!!!
luv nana th herblady
Loon: That's the Datura stramonium, commonly known as "Jimson Weed".
Dave
Thanks Dave for the ID. My husband who knows nothing about gardening kept telling me they grow fields of weeds like this back home. ;)
Loon, are those flowers really lavender? (I'm never certain of the color values on my monitor.) I have D. stramonium that's white with a dark purple throat, and I have seeds for a pure white one, which I think is the more common. How tall do your plants get? Mine are over eight feet tall now, but my Datura metel, which has similar leaves and flowers lavender with a dark purple throat, is only about three feet tall.
If it has room it will get about 4 feet tall and just as wide. The blooms are lavender....solid. I had ordered the seeds from a seed company (don't remember now who) and grew it one year and it has come back every year since because of the abundance of those prickly apple type seed pods OUCH!!!
I have tons of the 'weed' kind growing around here. Like Loon said if it has the room it will get to be big. I have some that are around 5-6 feet tall. When they are ready will have many to trade, as the seeds pods have loads of seeds in each one and there are like 4-10 pods per plant.
Judith- yes it's what I consider a very light lavender/purple and I would love to see about a trade for both of yours.
Like Dave said it is called Jimson weed or thornapple, Jamestown weed, devil's apple, or mad apple. According to my book the leaves are used to help people with Asthma. Happy Gardening (keep growing those weeds) Tonia
