Do dogs suffer from Acid reflux?

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

We have a little part jack russel terrier that seems to have some sort of problem from time to time.
She sleeps with me and sometimes wakes up and acts as though she is trying to swallow some liquid. She will have some excess saliva in her mouth and sometimes spits it out a little trying to swallow but not being able to.
I suffer from acid reflux and wonder if this could be her problem.
If it is, I have heard of giving pepcid for this. I have the Pepcid complete, is this alright to give her, or just plain Pepcid?
She seems sometimes to be choking as she did the other evening when she was sitting on the couch with me. She kept acting like she was trying to swallow something and couldn't. I stuck my finger down her throat thinking she might have something stuck in her throat. Nothing was found, but later on after I put her into the kitchen, she threw up some phlegm with a bit of hair in it.
This has me stumped, but it doesn't occur so often as to seem to require a vet visit. Aside from explaining the symptoms, are there tests that can be run to determine if this is what is going on? It bothers me, but my husband says I worry too much. I just don't want to ignore it if it is something serious.
