Allison bumped up the threads about pots, reminding me that I'd like to have an alternative to my 3 or 5 oz plastic cups (they work well, but sometimes the slightly more shallow pots are better, and sometimes I just want a "real" pot for a plant).
It looks like Secret Garden is the source for the smaller pots. They charge $10 shipping for orders up to $100 and 10% after that, so it might work well to split an order if anyone is interested.
For ease of accounting, let's say please order in multiples of 25, with a goal of ordering in lots of 100 (or 500 if we get carried away).
Figure that you'll add 10% for shipping to me (if our order is less than $100, I will make up the remainder on the shipping), plus a few bucks for shipping from me to you (actual cost via first class or priority mail, depending on weight).
Here are the pots I'm looking at http://www.secretgardenrareplants.com/catalog.cfm?category_id=16
1 3/4 inch round (black), 100 for $3.75 ---> 25 for 94 cents, 50 for $1.86
2 inch round (white), 100 for $6.75 ---> 25 for $1.69, 50 for $3.38
3 inch round (green, white also available), 100 for $8.75 ---> 25 for $2.19, 50 for $4.36
I may also add a few 4 inch green pots to my order, so LMK if you're interested in those too.
:-)
Anyone else need plastic pots for minis?

OK!
BTW, if anyone has any recent experience with this vendor, PLMK... Given their traditional lack of communication, I'm wondering what their timeframe is for shipping these days...
Then again, I can use pots whenever I get them!
One thing great about Secret Gardens is you pay only $10.00 Shipping and handling for up to $100.00 order. There is no amount nessary to order.
I always buy by the hundreds as I give them to friends, and neighbors in need, I enjoy putting extra sizes in boxes for people, prizes, and I like to have several sizes on hand.
Their 3 oz. round size are sturdy and awesome. 2 inch are great for all Mini-semi-minis for life really as minis never need more than a 2 inch pot :)) Great for babies from Mom too !
I buy their pan/bulb for trailers, epsicas, streps, Chiritas and more !
Most their pots come in white and green. If you ever plan on showing you will need white.
Well all their sizes are great and sturdy and cheap. And most important they can be soaked and bleach. It's important to put each new plant, trans-plant or baby into clean bleached pot !
Beware though double shipping prices can end up costing more sometimes than ordering yourself. Depending where you live like for me to ship CA. is twice as much if I ship to Florida and rates have gone up.
PS these are the bulb /pan pots I like best. I have bought them other places but like their's best !
5 inch, white or green
$.45 each $4.40 per 10 $21.50 per 50 $42.00 per 100
They also sell other things like four types of Perter's food !

Peters Special 12-36-14 African Violet
Special fibers, moss and even plants all for one low shipping cost :))
WOW you could have a lot of fun shopping !
Actually, I was thinking that $10 shipping was a little steep for somebody who only wanted 50 or 100 little pots... that's why I'm offering to share my order if anybody is interested. But certainly everybody needs to take shipping into account and see if they'd rather order directly. :-)
This would make a good little Coop is this how they call them big orders pooling together to save money :))
Exactly. But I didn't want it to turn into a huge thing with 30 people ordering by the case, so I didn't post it over on the co-op forum. :-)
Somebody Dmailed me wanting 150 little pots plus 100 4 inch pots, so I started doing some shipping weight calculations, and we figured out that she would end up saving maybe a buck by ordering with me rather than on her own, even if I sent her box via parcel post... so she'll order on her own and get some other things while she's at it.
I rounded up 10 two inch pots, and they weighed about 2 oz. I can't be sure of the weight until I get these actual pots, but I figure that will give us a way to estimate... So 100 2 inch pots should be about 20 oz, plus another 6 to 8 oz for the box (or 1 oz for a BE if that will work)... I'm thinking 100 to 125 little pots, maybe even 150 of the 1 3/4 inch pots, should fit into a 2 pound box.
A stack of 10 four inch pots that Allison sent me weighed a little over 4 oz, so 100 of them would weigh maybe 44 oz, and 25 would weigh about 11 oz.
Nancy, I'm guessing your box will be between 2 and 3 pounds... that's $7.20 by priority mail. We'll see what the forecast is like when these pots arrive here -- maybe I can send your leaves with them; I'll probably tuck in a couple regardless. :-)
So, if you need hundreds of the little pots or more than a few of the 4 inch ones, you may be ahead to order from them directly and just pay the $10 shipping. But if you want 50 or 100 little pots, this would be the way to go for sure.
Good thinking . Also depends where you live . Like I can ship to Florida low $$ and going to CA . double in cost of shipping.
When I shop from Secret gardens I buy extra's, food, sometimes a plant or two hanging baskets ( Hubby always seems to have something planted in them before I know what happens lol )
When I order my 4 , 5 inch azeala pots now I buy them from the other vendor what's their name begins with a " N" where Nancy bought a case for her club ! I bought a lot of these about 500 and gave most away for prizes and so on.
With prices so cheap it good to buy extra pay one shipping and you will have them when needed . I always like to pot a plant in a new pot before I give it away :)) I guess I love pots :)) lol
LOL, I think I started something.... 2 people have now gone to that site and decided they "needed" much more than a few pots after all...
I'll place my order next week. If anyone wants me to add a few pots for them, PLMK by Monday. I'm sure I'll order some extras, too... as long as I'm in for $10 shipping, I'll make the most of it!

Janet I have ordered many things from Bluebird in the past and their quality and service is wonderful! You really can't go wrong with them I feel! : )
I looked there but didn't see the 1 3/4 or 2 inch pots that I was after.... did I miss them? I'll look again...
I don't see those sizes either...being a novice I ordered the 2 1/2 inch pots plus a few other things..lol
Bluebirds does not have the smaller ones. I love the 2 inch as I like growing miniatures their mature size is always under 6 inches as you know so you never need larger than a 2 inch pot for miniatures and most Semi-miniautres too :)) Plus you can not beat the price of the 2 and 1 1/34 inch pots, and the 3 inch round white pots, and the white bulb/pan pots from Secret garden. You can order a hundred for $3.75 and 6.75 :)) No way beating this anywa.
When I just want a quick hundred or so and I like the Cutie pan pots Bluebirds is wonderful too. I've ordered suplies many times from them.
They do not have white pots for those that need them for show or like the look.
No, I believe you are correct Critter.I'm not absolutely certain but I think the smallest they carry are 2 1/2"
I'd have liked the option of white 1 3/4 inch pots, but I'm guessing Secret Garden carries different colors depending on what they have on hand. If I end up growing a plant for show, it should be easy enough to find a white pot for it somewhere on my shelf and do some transplanting so the show plant gets the white pot. :-)
The 2 1/2 inch are great for Semi-miniature plants and small standards. Good to keep to the 1/3 rule the pot should be 1/3 the size of the plant.
Semi-miniatures grow 6-8 inches and small standards start at 8 inches.
Miniatures can grow ok in 2 1/2 pots but neighter mini, nor semi's ever need a larger pot. Becareful of putting small babies or miniatures into 2 1/2 inches pots don't over water. They are going to try to fill the pots up with roots before blooming.
I have several little suckers in 1 inch cups , and I also like the 2 oz. dixie cups for miniatures.
The 1 3/4 inch pots Jill is talking about are great they have holes on side for bottom watering or wicking, they fit in mini wells, great for tiny babies, suckers, micro minis . And the two inch When I was growing by leaf I'd order 500 to thousand at a time as they are perfect for babies up to 6 inches across making them perfect size for minis and semis :)) The standards I kept in them until 6 inches across the I moved them up to 3 inch. Best to pot up 1/2 to one size up at a time.
You can't beat the pots Jill is talking about and they are strong can be bleached and reused :))
Jill if it has not changed trailers can be showed in any pots pan and so on ! And Gesneriads in any pots too. Most Gesneriads can be shown just for foliage too with no blooms.
Just the other plants need white and correct sizes. Years ago they had to wrap each pot in foil wrap. Old time growers tell me they like not having to do this anymore :))
Each show has a written schedule. Some of the rules are AVSA standards and some are the club's choice such as green pots or white pots. Whatever the club decides is what rules exhibitors must follow in order to enter. The best advice I can give is to get a program/schedule from the club and follow that.
link to USPS to calculate postage....very handy!
Like Allison was saying, if she were to send a 2lb. package Priority Mail to her same zip code in Florida, it would cost $4.20 but if she were sending to northern California zip 95521, it would cost $6.05
http://www.usps.com/tools/calculatepostage/welcome.htm?from=home&page=0061calculatepostage
I also have a digital scale purchased inexpensively on Ebay that is great for weighing packages here at home and then I can calculate postage and Click and Ship (USPS).....print out shipping labels postage paid. Makes it so easy. The postman will even pick up the package so no need to go to the Post Office.
yes good example. My old computer won't download the info correct and then you need a working printer for the pick up part which we don't have :( but for those who do great way to ship and get free Shipping Del. Conf.
