Crocus & a couple other bulb questions

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Hello,
I have 50 Crocus bulbs and 10 each of the following bulbs, Calochortus - Symphony, Dichelostemma - ida-maia, Iris Dwarf - reticulata "Pauline", Allium - Ornamental Onion and Oxalis "Iron Cross", These are suppose to arrive tomorrow Dec 1st...

I am in zone 5 - We are suppose to be getting some pretty nasty weather here and it is raining already.
Question: If I do not get to plant these out, how can I store them to plant in the spring? I don't have a basement nor a green house and no special lights... All bulbs are for my zone but the Oxalis which is for zone 7&. I will need to store them until the spring... I couldn't pass these up, the price was toooo good on them.

Thanks Connie

Connie, when I get late sale bulbs I keep them in the fridg till I can get them planted. Its advised to get them in the ground by January or so to give them enough time to get well rooted. Last year when the soil surface was frozen I was out using the shovel like a pic axe, lol. It really was'nt that bad- I just lifted the frozen "lid" of soil off and the soil underneath was workable. Then I stuck the bulbs in and replaced the frozen lid. I got 'em all in the ground by the end of December and all the bulbs did well. Good luck!

Thanks Neal,
I am hoping I will be able to do that. It is raining and its not suppose to let up till sometime next week :( And I am hoping we don't get any snow for a couple of weeks yet. ONE CAN HOPE lol...

I was wondering if I couple put these in pots and set them out and just transplant them in the spring in the new beds I will be doing? I have quite a big pots and one HUGH one.

I know I can't plant the oxalis out, I have to store them... I don't think putting those in the fridge will work? Those are for zone 7 and up... I do have some elephant ear tubers stored in my bedroom closet, (it stays cool in there) was wondering should I put the oxalix in some peat and store them there???

Yes, potting them works well too. I'd forgotten, but I did a lot of that last year too. Just potted the bulbs up, lined the pots up against the foundation of the house, and covered them with mulch. Then I planted them out in early spring. It was kind of nice being able to see where all the other bulbs were coming up so I could place them just right. The pots can also be kept in a garage or structure that offers some protection.

I received some Iron Cross oxalis last fall and stored them with my tender bulbs, and they did just fine.

If I keep them in the garage, won't I have to water them???

I am very very new to this, so I don't want to screw them up lol
