Bad Timing

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

On the eve of bad weather I have a number of plants that are putting out some nice blooms. Here are some of my nastersiums.

My perennial foxglove bloom at the strangest times. I hope they'll make it through this cold spell.

I planted these "Laura Bush" Petunias from seed last winter. They have bloomed from early spring till now.

Those are really pretty blooms Siggy.

Thank you. The way the temperature is dropping I'm not sure how long they have.

Ohhh, I love those nastersium blooms. No blooms from the one I got from you at the swap, but it has grown larger. It's planted in the extra large pot in front of my garage, in front of the Hyacinth bean vine which will probably be done with after tonight. I did cover it last night, and it's up against the house, so maybe it will pull through this cold snap.

It is tender. If you can keep it from freezing it will most likely bloom in spring.

Nasttertiams (sp?--haven't a clue) have survived 28 degrees for me. I always grow a few over the winter for nostalgic reasons. Them and the foxgloves should be OK if well watered prior to freezing. Nice pics. =)

Debbie, Thanks for the nastersium info. I don't know why i thought they were tender. I grew them from seed, for the first time.

Thanks deb. Sounds like there is still hope for them then. I watered them well last night and we also got over an inch of rain overnight before it even hit freezing.

Sometimes the wind will dessicate them and folks think they freeze--I've had that happen too many times to count. As long as the freeze isn't too harsh or too prolonged--they should be OK. They will definitely tolerate frequent "light" freezes. =)
