OK, so when a hummingbird is hanging out in one spot and making a TON of noise, does that mean he's decided to nest there? We've never had them nesting (that we know of lol) in our yard and we'd love it so much, in fact next year we are planning to put some wooden pieces under eaves and such to encourage some nesting.
Lynn....keeping her fingers crossed :-)
noisy hummingbird question
Lynn, the ones that nested in the large pine in front did the same thing earlier this year. Nobody, not human or bird was allowed to go near the hummer feeder until it went dry. We all learned touse the back door during that period and have kept it up, just to give them free access at any time to their feeder.
Personally, I feel blessed that they're here, it's the only tree of size on the property and of course I can only watch from inside. I'm hoping that what Im planting in the back will encourage them to be there so I can watch from the patio too.
lol Jude! Ours are right out front, too! The feeder is a fair distance from the door itself, maybe 15', but it is very near the walkway to the door and directly over the spot where you would enter the lawn.......but it's there because we can see it thru the security door when we sit on the couch lol. It's a good sized tree, the large rubbertree, so they certainly have room to pick a spot where they won't be bothered. Boy am I glad I put the feeder there.......hubby's idea, he sure comes in handy sometimes :-)
I always thought that when they were making all that noise they were telling the others to stay away from the feeders. But then what do I know, I don't talk birdish...I do know that owl's come back every year and nest in the same tree and the same branch so maybe hummers do the same ?
Well, I don't know either, was hoping someone would. I have feeders out back that aren't in trees and they aren't noisy around them, but like I said, they're not in trees :-)
azreno: I found this site on hummingbirds. You can even e-mail them any questions that aren't answered in their website. They are also in Az.
