Hi everyone,Hmmm this really has me curious.Has anyone tried starting av leaves in something called rooting gel? I found an article on this site by Jana Strathmann and I wonder how well it would work??

VERY neat!!! I wonder how well that would work for smaller av leaves!

There are a couple long threads on this in our forum here if you want to do a search and pull them up. A few people were tying it. Most did not get back with results. I thinks those that did did not give it complete thumbs up.

I bumped up the other two threads . Anyone have more info or results ? I feel it would be great fun to see the roots in the gell with the babies :))

CJ I might try it myself for something fun to do over the winter. : )

Allison,Thanks for finding the other threads on the rooting gel.I figured someone had to have heard of it before and had some experience using it. I really think it would be a fun experiment. That would be really neat to be able to see babies form in the gel. : )

I thought often of trying it for fun ! When I use to have 500 plus leave down all the time not economical . But now that i'm not growing may try it just for fun and take pictures too :))

I am new at AV and I just cut a few leaves off and rooted them in plain water. Everyone grew roots. I have them planted up and we will see what happens. Good luck.

I've tried this before...just to see if it worked and it does. Kind of a fun thing to do, but not with 500 cuttings, I agree.

CJ I have been researhing different brands and I asked my DH to get me some Clonex Rooting Compound/Gel from a website called plantitearth for a Christmas Present for me.I think hes going to get me some.I hope anyway. I am really anxious to try it : )

I tried rooting compound once and it took longer for babies to come and more of the leaves rotted. I do use it on starts of woody plants like my lipstick plant and guppy plant.

Thanks nanna,Thanks for sharing your experience with me.After hearing that I think I might just try it on a few noid av leaves first.I would hate to lose good ones to rot.My hubby gave me a lipstick plant last weekend so that might be a fun one to try the rooting gel with.

Hi Nancy,
Let us know how you like the Clonex Gel after you try it. I have never used any rooting products and would be interested to see what you think and how it compares with or without.

When I used the gel, I purchased it at www.kinsmangarden.com. I tried the handy six-pack to start with then also purchased some gel that came in a refill bottle. Fun to try. My kids like checking out the new roots and their progress. One way to involve them. My youngest is cute. She had to help me put down some av leaves the other day. Nice to have them around and involved in something I love, plus more time with them.
