Well....not a Snow banana but a Musa basjoo in the snow. They never protect this banana but it comes through winter just fine every year.
S'no Banana like a Snow Banana
We finally had to close our windows down here & turn the AC back on... so jealous of that banana right now! :)~
Do the other tropicals in the pic make it through winter as well? I think I see a palm and a Philo?

That is amazing. I envy your climate growin. Thanks for sharing the picture.
Erick
Yes, there's a small Gunnera and Trachycarpus palm in the pic. They aren't protected for winter. I envy Gina_Rose's climate. I guess the grass is always greener....
Don't know how you do it, we're so spoiled, last week was in the 60s and people were freaking out. By next year I'll be moved out of Zone 11 to Zone 10 and thats as low as im going,m i hope my plants will be able to cope with the change There pretty used to the weather in the Keys.
Great Pic, Thanks and stay warm
I get depressed just looking at it. Spent my first 16 yrs in Chicago and would not go back to the cold unless perhaps to North Carolina. I may some day retire outside of Florida because it is getting too expensive to live here. Fortunately, I bought my house in 1990 and am locked in on lower tax rates and have been able to keep my original homeowners insurance. I don't call them and they don't bother me. I don't intend to ever file a claim unless it burns down. LOL
I would certainly miss the weather though. Spent half the day today potting up new seedlings and planting some annuals. Tough to do in the snow!
Jan...
I've done it before but my fingers stiffen up in the cold now. This is pretty-much the warmest area in Canada and I can't go any warmer. I dream of moving to California or Florida. You could adopt me - I do windows.
lol :)
Come on down. I can put you to work. LOL
I'm guessing that thing has been out a few years... I remember seeing M. basjoo in Japan that were covered in snow like that, and they didn't even get bothered by 2 weeks of freezing weather with winds whipping off Tokyo Bay.....
But my greenhouse-raised M. basjoo that I planted out this year died back when the temps only dropped to about 20 overnight for a couple of days.... I'm hoping that they'll toughen up after a few years outside, though.
I purchased a Musa basjoo this year and planted it in my garden. I was told by my supplier that it will be hardy here in my zone 5b garden with protection, although it will die back. I'm not so sure, but nevertheless I wanted to try it. So, once it started getting frosty here I put a length of Big "O" pvc pipe over it (tied to stakes to make it more sturdy) and stuffed it full of leaves. We'll see if it comes back in the spring:-)

I'm just cutting mine back and mulching them good... There's a guy about 3 miles from where I live who has two HUGE basjoos, and that's all he does for the winter for his.... This past August, his were about 15 Ft high.....
