I have had this H. verticillata for years...and I especially like the leaves - dark green and narrow - but it never bloomed. I was almost going to hussle it out to a tree when I hung it in the new shade house 'in the meantime'.... Suddenly it put on feet of grow full of peduncles...reaching for the sky...and it is blooming away with more to come!!! I guess I was growing it in too much shade!!! Here are the blooms as they opened all today

As usual that is spectacular.

BTW in your collection of pictures do you by chance have one that you can see the seeds on the plant? I'm trying to recognize them on mine.

Thanks

The seed pods look like string beans on the small plants...up to H. australis..... Then on the larger leafed plants they look bigger. See my thread on the seed pods on H. ciliata.... you can't miss them (altho' I have because they blend in with the leaves!!!).

Your verticillata is just beautiful Carol. I find mine likes alot of sun, but the leaves always get so darn light, that I always think it's going to croak.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Tami - I find the verticillata like a lot of LIGHT.... that plant is growing with 73% shade yet growing TOWARDS the sun.... Love the verticillatas!!!! They are the faithful St. Bernards!

Carol

Verticillatas grow really well for me. I'd like to have all the varieties/clones!

Verticillata is one of my favorites as well. Sooo reliable. Is there a yellow flowered one out there some where? I thought I read some where that there was, but maybe I am thinking of red. Where is my mind going???
