Growing on wood?

North Augusta, ON

hey everybody,
I want to get a couple hoyas to grow on wood, any ideas on how to do this? Don't laugh, I have a vine (cant remember what kind ) that has rooted to the plaster on one of my walls, and have decided I like the look, so I want to achieve the same effect with hoyas...lose the pot so to speak. I found some really cool burls and hollow knots...how do I get the hoyas growing in them?
Thanks,
LeeAnne

LeeAnne...what a fun project! I use TreeFern slabs (pieces cut of the trunks...I think you can get them at nursery places) which retain moisture and give them something to grip onto.... Just put it close to the pot and coax a vine to attach (ties help)...and keep it misted. I once covered a piece of 2x4 (untreated!!!) with burlap and the hoya went to town!!! It especially helps, I think, if the surface you want it to grow on is damp...not soggy...but damp and cool like a tree would be. I have seen H. curtisii growing up a refridgerator!!!!

cool...can't get the tree fern here in Canada, but the 2X4 I can do, and I know I got burlap somewhere around here.......
