Black Dragon EE?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Described as "kin to Black Magic...gets MUCH Larger and will produce a "vine" which runs on the ground and produces more of this remarkable ear, it will have Glossy leaves up to 2' long in a Deep Purple, Nearly Black Tint"
Has anyone had any experience with this EE? I have Black Taro - I just didn't want to duplicate what I had & also wanted to find out what was a fair price to pay for a young plant. Thanks so much for any and all help!!

Wondering now if this is the same one listed as 'Black Runner' in the plantfiles....hmmmm?

That is what I was wondering. I think that Black Runner is also the same as Black Ruffles.
PS I really like this plant with the wavy edges.

So this same EE is: Black Ruffles, Black Runner AND Black Dragon? Geez, talk about confusing!!

There's a 'pupping' Black and a 'running' Black.
Some blacker, some bigger, some rufflier.......lol
All are variations on a theme as far as I can see.

Though Brian I'm sure is working on that...............

I personally have not heard of black dragon colocasia. I can tell you what I have seen. The Colocasia Black Magic made a huge hit on the market years ago it was at the time the only form I had seen around. Then out of Hawaii came what I called Black runner which later got the name black ruffles due to its running habit and its ruffled edges. Years later I visited Atlanta botanical gardens and saw what looked to be a giant form of Black magic over 9 feet tall. It was said to be a collected form? I got a few pups with permission and grew them out and have yet to get them near that size. Many of these dark forms were coming out of hybrid work in Hawaii. This last season I did a lot of hybrid work with black magic and some other forms. I have see photos of the hybrid work out of Hawaii and some are very amazing one that sticks out of my mind right now is a very shinny black leaf form that will be on the market in a few years. Not sure what the name that is going to be put with it but it is a very amazing looking colocasia. I have sense done some hybrids with the pink china and black magic and am testing some this year for hardiness. They are black but not as black as black magic. I have posted photos of them before on daves garden.

BW and Ric - thank you both for responding and your patience with me!! Trying to read up on these plants as well as threads here on the forum!! Not sure if this is appropriate or not (sure someone will tell me, if so) but here is the ebay listing I was referring to the 'Black Dragon' in: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220052015950&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D220052015950%26fvi%3D1 So...would you all say that this is actually 'Black Runner?'
Ric - my apologies...just realized I'd included that link in an email to you with the same question. My brain goes MIA on me at times...LOL

Yes I'd say Black Runner.

No apologies needed. EE's are starting to heat up and a lot of new forms will be popping up.
Unless they are patented they can be called Black Fred if the grower likes! lol

OK well I looked at you link and I have to say I wish you luck. It seems your ordering from TY TY nursery who is now on ebay. They are very well known for changing names manipulating photos and sending wrong plants. Their nursery has gotten a reputation and not a very good one. I have ordered from them years ago and had similar problems to many others.
It looks from the description that it is indeed Black runner AKA black ruffles.

ACK I didn't follow site deep enough to see TY TY... Good Catch Brian!

Chantell it's probably a good time to inform you of the Garden Watchdog here.
Just hit the tab up at the top of the Home Page, type in a company name and you get an instant review of their performance from customers.

When you get this response:

You may be searching for a company that is no longer listed in the Garden Watchdog. For questions about their removal from the Garden Watchdog, you should contact this vendor directly. We also recommend contacting the Better Business Bureau to ascertain any company's track record with their customers.

Be VERY afraid!!!

You all are great....a big ole thank you!! I hadn't placed a bid on it...I like to check with fellow DG'er regarding things I'm not knowledgeable about. Thank you also for the reminder re Watchdog...I seem to forget ebay sellers may be listed there as well. DG friends never fail me...hopefully I've saved others from making mistakes as well. Thanks again!!!
