Do I panic?

Columbia, SC

I was searching the forum for some other stuff when I came across the post for SB lesions. And suddenly I see them on my plants. Do I need to worry that all my brugs (cuttings and all) have been in the same room together for the last few weeks? They are in individual pots, but I admit that I don't wash my hands between handling one plant to another.
I have 3 very suspicious lesions from "monster brug." The one I found on "goldtrum" is slightly different.

I've grown brugs for several seasons and the only place I've seen damage like that has been via photo. If it was mine, I would dig it up & dispose of it, away from your other plants and keep close watch on the others. Maybe digging it up seems hasty, but I have so many that the loss of one or a few would not be missed. I surely hope I'm mistaken & I hope it isn't serious. Good luck, and please keep us posted...

I hate to lose them. :( Goldtraum has been my best bloomer. They are both 1 year old, and came from the same source. In fact, they are my first brugs. Wahhh!

They are in pots - do I toss the soil and pot too?

victoria, I could be totally wrong, so don't cut their throats until someone more knowledgeable with 'diseases' will reply. I have so many, that i toss anything that is questionable. Early on, I heard that yellow, was more susceptible, so since I prefer pink and white, I have the few yellows I have planted in another garden, where they have been fine. I also heard the same thing about yellow roses, so, again, I just don't put them in my garden. But, since I've never seen a diseased brug, you need to hear from someone ahead of me, and that's about the entire brug forum. Someone will come along and help you...there is a thread, re SB and other stuff, in the classic threads, but I don't know which one, but if you will search you should be able to find it. Good luck!!! I really hope I'm wrong!!!!

With the lesions starting by the leaf nodes and the dark edging around the lesions it sure looks like SB to me on your Monster.
Although your Goldtraum doesn't have the dark edge around the lesion I would'nt take a chance with it especially if you might have handled it after touching an infected Brug as yellows are more susceptible to SB as Sherry stated.
This is JMHO but I would rather get rid of a couple than lose all of them to the desease.
Keep a close eye on the rest of your Brugs, wash hands between handling each one and sterilize clippers or trimmers with boiling water after each use.
I'm sorry, this probably isn't what you wanted to hear. :(
I'm sure others will come along also with an opinion.

Sherry, I never heard that about yellow roses. What do they get?

I agree with Sherry, Monster brug must go. ASAP. Anything with black around the nodes is bad news. I hope you did not use the same cutters on it and your other brugs. I would toss it, dirt and pot in a plastic bag and get rid of it.

And Sherry is right, yellow multiybirds and suaveolens are the brugs most susceptible.

Your Goldtraum looks OK to me, as long as it has no black. Just keep looking over your brugs frequently. Its not the end of the brug world either, lots and lots of people have had this and their other brugs survived. Often all the suavs and yellows do get it in your grouping if you have had it close to them, but the others do fine.

I boil my clippers for 5 minutes between brugs. And I find I can break the ends off and then do not even need my clippers.

I am sorry!

Oh no not my Monster Brug. That does look bad and like SB. I see the black around the lesion and stems. I have had her 12 years now and no sign of anything. GoldTraum looks like cork to me but if you have used the same clippers on them all and handled them all at once I would get rid of them and start over

LOL, I've only been in roses about 2 hours, Kell!!! Because of the bugs, etc, with brugs, I asked for easy to grow roses, and a couple of people I talked to, where I've ordered roses, said, stay away from yellow and my local guru said the same thing, except he said, if you really want/like yellow, just plant them away from the other roses. Someone said something similar on a DG forum, about a mailbox, I think, but I cannot remember the forum...

you need to ask Monika

that is a serious disease.

Quanantine the ones exposed. PLEASE and mark them as ones that you won't share with the rest of the gardeners.

Important.
