Can somebody tell me if it is time to put this plant in a bigger pot ?
Thanks.

If it were mine, I would.

Thanks. It won't be easy. Any suggestions?
I was thinking of putting the whole pot in a much bigger one then, with a chisel, break the old pot and remove the pieces. Then I would fill the new pot with fresh soil. A plant of that size, with so may thorns, is not easy to handle.

I usually wrap an old towel or layered newpaper around the plant to get a good grip.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

I hade the same prob.
But my plant is only 4 ft tall,
So it was easier. lol
A lot of the leaves did fall of though .

Ok - I have two of these; they are outside in zone 10a; they are in filtered sun.
They do not seem to be growing very much - what am I doing wrong?
Yours is a stunning specimen aloesv!!

I live in Ottawa, Canada so the plant remains inside all year long. It is too big to bring outside anyways in the summer.
It is in a very bright window.
I know that you are not supposed to give the plant too much water. But mine loves water. I usually pour water on top of the soil till the level reaches at least 1 inch deep ( about a quart and a half) every week or 10 days. When the surface is dry, I water it again. And it grows and grows. The leaves stay on the plant for about six months. As soon as they start falling off, a new growing period begins. Really fascinating. It is only eight years old ! Another year and I think it will reach the ceiling. I am taking some little branches off to start a new plant.
It used to be in a greenhouse where all the plants would receive lots of water. So much that there was mosses growing at the base of the plant. I guess it adapted to those wet conditions.

Wow was excited to read the posts. I adopted mine when my mom passed in march. It had no new growth. Was not sure if I could save it. It had been the same for a few years. It was in a shallow pot and all other cacti in it died or were dead when it got it. I put it outside when weather got sunny and it has doubled in size. It also likes alot of water!! I read some on propagating it in the spring! Has anyone had success ? Would live to hear about it! Thanks for all the pictures!
